Meme (Ja, Ja)
awanderingbard alerted me to this nice list. So I picked out a few items.

Give me the name of a character I write or have written and I'll answer these questions:

-Who did they look up to the most as a child?
-What clothing do they like to wear, and what do they wear most often?
-As a child, what did they want to be when they grew up? Did they realize their dream?
-What are they like when they are drunk?
-How do they react to being physically injured or undergoing medical treatment?
-How do they arrange or decorate their living space?

I'll have Winnie and Elliot, if that's okay.

Here we go:

Winnie Watson-Barnes

Who did they look up to the most as a child?
Winnie looked up to her dad a lot growing up in terms of the kind of person she wanted to be. She wanted to be independent, she wanted to be kind, she wanted to help and protect people. As she started to get older, she began to look toward her mom more in terms of how she would choose to help and protect people.

What clothing do they like to wear, and what do they wear most often?
Unless she’s on a run, Winnie likes to dress in layers which seems to be a look picked up from both her parents. She owns a lot of cardigans because cardigans are perfect to thrown on over just about anything. Low heeled boots or running shoes are usually Winnie's footwear of choice. Unless she has to dress up a bit and then she carries on the tradition that all Watson women must wear four inch heels.

As a child, what did they want to be when they grew up? Did they realize their dream?
Winnie wanted to be a detective when she was a kid, thanks to her mom but mainly Uncle Sherlock who showed her tons of fun science can go into being a detective. Her goals changed a little after The One Day Sherlock Was In Charge of Looking After Winnie. On that day, Sherlock had to follow up on a lead to a murder investigation and thought it wouldn’t be safe to take a child (which he defensively later told Joan and Bucky was sound parenting on his part). So he left Winnie to Rex the ME’s charge. Winnie had a great day and Rex stands corrected: a 9 year old can be a good assistant. Now Winnie gets to help solve crime from a medical examiner’s standpoint so she thinks her dream is pretty realized.

What are they like when they are drunk?
Winnie is a stealthy drunk. Meaning, most people don’t realize she’s drunk as she’s spent years honing in her “What? I’m very sober right now” face (thanks, Aunt Natasha!). However, those who know her can usually tell as she’ll be a bit more chatty and enthusiastic about topics she usually cares nothing about. “Tell me more about sea sponge migration! That sounds amazing!”

How do they react to being physically injured or undergoing medical treatment?
Knowledge is power for Winnie. She’s a doctor so if she has to undergo medical treatment herself, she’ll read up on it or pull up any previous knowledge she has on the procedure. “86% of patients who undergo this procedure make it out without a single complication. I’m good!” She mainly does this because one, it’s kind of fun and two, she knows her dad hates hospitals and medical-related things so she likes to give numbers to help.

How do they arrange or decorate their living space?
The only space Winnie keeps in tight order is her office. Her office is all about neat lines and well organized papers and articles. But everywhere else has a lived-in feel. There’s usually at least one coffee mug on kitchen counter, articles of clothing thrown on the couch, her bed definitely never gets made. She also has tons of photos which take up most of her wall space and random knick knacks from her life. Like that ceremonial sword Thor gave her when she was 13 and the fingerprinting sheet from when Sherlock accidentally got them arrested when she was 8.

Elliot Solarin

Who did they look up to the most as a child?
Probably his dad. Elliot always wanted to hear about how his father kept the city safe and how many bad guys he put away when was growing up. As a kid, Elliot always wanted to be braver like his dad and help stop crime more proactively but had a sneaking suspicion he was more of a book person like his mom.

What clothing do they like to wear, and what do they wear most often?
Elliot dresses quite often in suits. It’s not a requirement of his job but he was coached as a child that dressing well sets up a good impression which he has now completely taken in. On more casual days he might ditch the jacket and tie. Or at least the tie. Elliot has a gold tie pin that he got as a present from his Uncle Hector when he got into his doctorate program. He always wears it for luck whenever he has to deliver a presentation or address his department or anything else that gets him anxious.

As a child, what did they want to be when they grew up? Did they realize their dream?
Elliot had early dreams of wanting to be a mobile librarian. That way, even if he had to travel long distances, he’d have a little library built around him to keep him busy and indoors. He’s a professor now so while he doesn’t have a library built around him, he can choose to stay in one for hours and not go outside. So still living the dream.

What are they like when they are drunk?
Elliot gets very confident when he’s drunk. Not so much to do physical things but mental things. How could the police NOT have figured out who the Zodiac killer was? He’ll do it right now! Forget theories about who Jack the Ripper was. He’ll do some hardcore research and in under an hour he’ll have foolproof evidence of the man’s identity! Sherlock saw this play out once and advised Elliot never to get drunk ever again.

How do they react to being physically injured or undergoing medical treatment?
Elliot approaches it like he might a long flight: he just wants to sleep and when he wakes up it’ll be over. He doesn’t want to talk about it and he’d rather not know what’s going to happen to his body when he’s under. He and Winnie went through this the time Elliot needed to get knee surgery to repair a torn ligament.

Winnie: It’ll be pretty simple. The procedure-
Elliot: I don’t want to know!
Winnie: It’s really not-
Elliot: I don’t care. Let’s not talk about it. I’d rather talk about anything else but that.
Winnie: Okay. Did you see the new podcast Radiotopia added to their list?
Elliot: The one about whale songs and other ways animals communicate?
Winnie: I can load up a few on my phone and we can listen right now.

How do they arrange or decorate their living space?
Despite his love for being indoors, Elliot isn’t the best nester. Growing up, his room was basically a library and so his apartment as an adult that had more than one room usually had a living room that looked like a library and the rest of the place didn’t have much in terms of décor. His bedroom had a bed, his office had a desk and a chair, his kitchen had kitchen things, what more do people need? After living in his apartment for three years, he finally put up a painting. And got a decorative plant.

These are great! I love Winnie's childhood adventures with Uncle Sherlock. And I love how our random silliness is canon now (Thor's sword, Winnie's being arrested at 8 years old).

However, those who know her can usually tell as she’ll be a bit more chatty and enthusiastic about topics she usually cares nothing about.

I now have an image of JJ and Winnie being drunk together and JJ yelling about history and Winnie being uncharacteristically enthusiastic about it.

JJ: AND THE LICHTENSTEIN ARMY CAME BACK WITH MORE SOLDIERS THAN THEY LEFT WITH!
Winnie: Wow, that's super interesting!
JJ: THANK YOU FOR BEING INTERESTED! YOU'RE A GREAT PERSON!

I can also see JJ using it as a litmus test to see if Winnie is drunk or not.

JJ: All the British soldiers' pants were pink at the battle of Waterloo because the dye from their red coats ran in the thunderstorms.
Winnie: Really? That's interesting. Did the thunderstorms effect the battle of the...thing?
JJ: You're asking follow-up questions. That's enough drinking for you tonight.

Elliot and Nora can be book friends. I can see her chatting to him about it to ease him into the Avengers social gatherings, because she's been the normal one out there in the past. No, don't worry about the fire, DUM-E will get that, eventually, let's talk about this new book!

Thanks for the answers. :-D

Haha! I can imagine them waking up the next day with hangovers and JJ talking softly while Winnie asks him to stop going on about history already.

No, don't worry about the fire, DUM-E will get that, eventually, let's talk about this new book!

Nora: I always look forward to new books by him, don't you?
Elliot: Definitely. I really enjoyed how he- are you sure we shouldn't do something about the fire?
Nora: Nope, DUM-E will handle it.
Elliot: Uh, okay. Anyway, yes, I really enjoyed how he used different POVs this time.
Nora: Me too! It's amazing how he can get inside the head of so many different people from so many different walks of life.
Elliot: Absolutely. What was your favorite part? Uh, the fire is getting a bit bigger.
Tony: DUM-E! Hurry up and put out the fire! Don't make me do your job.
Elliot: I really can just reach the fire hydrant from here.
Tony: No, don't move. He has to learn how to do this.
Pepper: We lost four coffee tables already to DUM-E's lessons, Tony.
Tony: Exactly. It's too late to turn this ship around. He has to learn how to put out a fire on time!

Hehe!

DUM-E: *enthusiatic fire extinguisher*
Tony: Okay, well, you just extinguished the fire place and ignored the coffee table, but you know what, you're improving. Good job, buddy.
Elliot: Should I maybe put it out now?
Tony: No, dude, he's never going to get it right if nobody believes in him. God! He's trying, okay? Stop throwing shade,
Elliot: Right. Sorry.
Nora: I thought the use of foreshadowing was a bit heavy handed this time around, though, didn't you?

Haha!!

Winnie: Having a good time? Oh, did Uncle Clint set fire to something again?
Elliot: Is Tony Stark really going to let furniture go up in flames to train a robot?
Winnie: Don't worry. Another three minutes and he'll orchestrate some 'accident' where someone trips and drops a bunch of water on the fire.
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on September 20th, 2015 04:35 am (UTC)
Hee!

JJ: And, if that doesn't work, JARVIS will only let it go on for so long before he'll put it out himself. Right, JARVIS?
JARVIS: In 2 minutes, 35 seconds, you will be correct, Master Joseph.
Nora: Yeah, actually, that's a good point, Jay, why don't we all move out of the way of the sprinklers?
Elliot: Yes, we wouldn't want to get wet. That would be much worse than burning to death.

Speaking of getting wet, here's JJ and Betti enjoying the rain.

Heh.

JJ: But Elliot had a good time, right?
Winnie: 'Interesting time' is probably more accurate.
JJ: He'll get used to large family gatherings. It can't be easy if you're used to get togethers just being you and one parent.
Winnie: I think it's more him having to get used to Uncle Tony. He's like seven extra family members.
Tony: I'd get mad but if I think about it, that's a compliment.

Awwww! I love the little wellies.

Hee! Awww. That's so true. He's your cool uncle, awesome older brother, badass granddad, crazy cousin, and fun godfather all rolled into one.

I've decided JJ's room at the Tower probably looks like this. At least when he was a kid. And hell, probably when he gets older, too, because I can so see JJ being a grown-up but every once in a while just wanting to go and sleep in his fish room.

Pinterest is telling me it couldn't find that page. Now I really want to see this fish room.

Whoops! Coding error on my part.

Let's try again.
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on September 20th, 2015 05:07 am (UTC)
I like that JJ's room has two levels. Sort of. Also, is that an elephant on the bed? I love that it's the only non-water animal just randomly thrown in there!
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on September 20th, 2015 05:13 am (UTC)

That's my favourite part, because in my head, I can just see Tony going 'did I go too hard on the fish theme? I'll put an elephant in there. Yeah, it's fine now.'

formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on September 20th, 2015 05:19 am (UTC)
'did I go too hard on the fish theme? I'll put an elephant in there. Yeah, it's fine now.'

Hahaha!!

Did JJ ask for a fish theme room? In my headcanon, Tony let the kids dictate what their room should look like. Or not look like in Winnie's case.

Winnie: No pink or sparkles.
Tony: Really? I did my bathroom in the gaming room in pink and sparkles.
Winnie: No sparkles!
Tony: Got it. Have you got a theme in mind?
Winnie: Can I have the solar system?
Tony: Sure! But what about the stars? Those sparkle.
Winnie: Can I get the glow in the dark ones?
Tony: Good choice.
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on September 20th, 2015 05:39 am (UTC)
I think JJ probably asked for a 'swimming' room, and Tony rolled with it. JJ came in on a very regular basis to have his hearing aids made, and Tony let him choose designs for them, so by the time JJ would need a Big Boy room in the Tower, Tony probably had a good idea of what JJ liked and didn't like. I can also see it going something like:

JJ: *proudly hands him a bunch of scribbles on a paper* I drew a design for my room!
Tony: Okay. Let's take a look. Well, I like your use of negative space. And the flying buttresses are gnarly. I'll see what I can do.
JJ: It's a swimming room.
Tony: Well, obviously. How could I think it was anything else? It's totally clear.
JJ: And that's a fish. I saw it at a n'aquarium with Daddy.
Tony: I love n'aquariums. So, swimming fish room. Totally cool. I love it. I'll scan this in and come up with something good.
JJ: *runs off*
Tony: Okay, JARVIS, pull the colours from this mess and let's make a badass room for the kid.
JARVIS: Yes, sir.

Winnie: Can I have the solar system?
Tony: Sure! But what about the stars? Those sparkle.
Winnie: Can I get the glow in the dark ones?
Tony: Good choice..

I'm picturing something like this.
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on September 20th, 2015 05:50 am (UTC)
I like how Tony just rolls with the barely decipherable drawing JJ gave him. And him mirroring JJ's 'n'aquariums.'

I'm picturing something like this.

Yup, looks about right.

Here's a toy Sherlock gave Winnie for one of her earlier birthdays. He wanted to give her something more scientifically accurate but Ms. Hudson advised him that children usually like cute things at that age.

In my Stark Family Adventures stories, small!Tony draws a lot of 'blueprints', and I'd like to think grown-up!Tony remembers how they all totally made sense to his small brain and is supportive of all efforts shown to him.

JJ: It's a picture of you and me!
Tony: You've totally captured my likeness. I think this is the best portrait anyone's ever drawn of me. I'm going to put this on my fridge. One of my fridges. I have a lot of fridges. What's this part, over here?
JJ: That's DUM-E.
Tony: Of course! Sorry, he doesn't look like an idiot, so I didn't recognize him.

He wanted to give her something more scientifically accurate but Ms. Hudson advised him that children usually like cute things at that age.

Awww. I like the idea of Sherlock looking around for a scientifically accurate plushie to give to Winnie, and then judging the cuteness levels of them once he's changed tactics.

'Yes, this looks very huggable.'

I can also picture Winnie and JJ at their sleepovers, with Winnie hugging her bee and JJ hugging his non-fish elephant.
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on September 20th, 2015 09:05 pm (UTC)
I amused myself with writing a fic snippet of Sherlock testing out the huggability of each bee plushie before deciding that he'd found a suitable one. He also did some quick research in how round things tend to be pleasing to the human eye.
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on September 20th, 2015 10:51 pm (UTC)
Hee! Awww. Does Winnie's bee have a name? I feel like JJ would name his elephant something like 'Mr. Fish', so it wouldn't feel out of place in a room full of underwater creatures.

JJ: He's in charge of all the other fish.
Tony: You should call him Captain Fish, then. He can be smug and self-righteous.
JJ: No, he's just a mister.
Tony: What are we calling the crabs?
JJ: Um...Mr and Mrs Crab?
Tony: Well, I'm glad they're married. I wouldn't want any scandalous crab relationships up in here.

I have in one of the memes I did for Nora that she has a little Irish dancing doll that she was given for her first feis and she still keeps it on her nightstand. Her name is Ceili. Victor took exception to Ceili when Nora moved in, and Steve had to teach him new signs for 'don't chew on that doll'. But he and Ceili are friends, now.
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on September 20th, 2015 11:36 pm (UTC)
Does Winnie's bee have a name?

She named him Ernie. When Sherlock gave it to her, he told her it was a poor approximation of a bombus ternarius. She likes to have adventures with him where they go to space.

Sherlock: Bees going to space would be an interesting theory on their mass disappearance.
Winnie: We fight bad aliens!
Sherlock: Bees are by nature peaceful creatures.
Winnie: We help good aliens!

I feel like JJ would name his elephant something like 'Mr. Fish', so it wouldn't feel out of place in a room full of underwater creatures.

Awww! Will Mr. Fish ever attain Captain status?
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on September 20th, 2015 11:52 pm (UTC)

Hahaha! I'm imagining Winnie telling Thor about the adventures she and Ernie have been on in space.

Thor: Ernie seems to be a brave warrior insect indeed. We would be lucky to have him on Asgard to help protect our people.

Awww! Will Mr. Fish ever attain Captain status?

I imagine when he and JJ sail the high seas or go on submarine adventures, he might be breveted to Captain. But not like a Daddy Captain. Like a sea Captain. Or an Admiral, maybe. Admiral Fish. Nora's mom probably makes Admiral Fish a little sailor outfit or something. Probably something like Cousin Arthur from Babar.
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on September 21st, 2015 12:43 am (UTC)
I'd like to think Winnie still has Ernie even after she grew up. He's been sewn up a lot but he's managed to survive. He's now retired to a shelf in Winnie's living room.

But not like a Daddy Captain. Like a sea Captain.

Ah, that makes sense. I can picture him wearing a captain hat. And possibly Tony buying one to wear so when he plays with JJ, he can be the captain of a different ship that's negotiating a trade.

^_^

Yeah, Admiral Fish is probably kicking around JJ's apartment somewhere.

Tess: So...he's a sailor elephant?
JJ: Yep.
Tess: Why does he have medals?
JJ: Because he was decorated in battle.
Tess: Is that how he got promoted to admiralty?
JJ: Getting promoted in the navy was really more about money than service. He probably bought his commission.
Tess: His commission in the elephant navy.
JJ: I was three. It made sense at the time.
Tess: I'm more impressed that you were aware of naval politics at three than anything else.
JJ: I watched a lot of BBC mini-series with Mom.

And possibly Tony buying one to wear so when he plays with JJ, he can be the captain of a different ship that's negotiating a trade.

That is adorable.

Tony: Avast and ahoy and stuff. Belay that and...do the thing with the mast.
JJ: Do you know how to be a sailor, Uncle Tony?
Tony: I'm not gonna lie, I was more into robots and dinosaurs at your age.
JJ: Do you want to be a dinosaur sailor?
Tony: ...Okay, give me, like, an hour and I will have a sailor dinosaur in here. JARVIS, run a Stark Search on dinosaur plushies in the immediate area. Preferable in uniform.
JARVIS: It might be quicker to make one, sir.
Tony: I like the way you think. Get on that.

JJ's logic is the best. If Tony doesn't know how to be a regular sailor than obviously a dinosaur sailor is the way to go!
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on September 21st, 2015 04:30 am (UTC)
JJ just wants to make sure everyone is having fun. If Uncle Tony likes dinosaurs, and JJ like sailing, then obviously they would both have fun being dinosaur sailors. And if Winnie wants to be a bee sailor, that's cool, too. All are welcome aboard Captain JJ and Admiral Fish's boat.
