Okay, Why Don't We Just Merge in the X-Men Franchise Too?
The Captain America: Civil War cast has gotten even bigger.

Okay, at this point they really should just consider this an Avengers movie. I feel like they keep saying this is a Cap movie because it'll likely be Chris Evans' last but it also feels like they're trying to turn this into an Avengers movie in some weird effort to get him in with the team one last time. This is a shame because while I've been fine with the Avengers, Steve tends to get lost in the character development stuff when he's in a team. Cap 2 really showed off all the layers one can go with Steve Rogers and I worry we're not going to have much of that for his final outing.

I'm also just very concerned that the MCU is going to end Steve's story with his death. I know that's comics canon and eventually gets reversed because no one stays dead in the comics but if Evans never comes back then MCU's Steve could end there and really, out of all the Avengers, I want Steve to get a happy end to his story. No angst for Steve Rogers, goddammit!

It makes me nervous all these characters being added. Every superhero franchise has started to tank when they put too many characters in it to juggle, and one of the best things about the MCU is the effort and detail they've put into making well-rounded, complex characters with fully formed stories. If it's just going to be a romp through 'look, everyone's here!', it's going to lose a lot of heart.

Also:

And furthermore:

Speaking of puppies:

I'd like to think Tony is poking Jarvis to wake him up somewhere off screen.

I really don't understand the point of why so many new superheroes need to be in this film. I'm fine with Natasha and Sam since they were in the 2nd film and it worked fine. And I sort of accepted Tony being in it. But now that the list has gotten so long that Thor is the only one left out, it feels ridiculous. It's an Avengers movie now! Just admit it.

Ah, puppies. I've been staring at a lot of them as I returned to my Steve Rogers Is Turning Stark Tower Into a Shelter fic for a bit. So many puppies.

Heehee! Or if were going to daemon-verse even the crazy crossover verse, that would be JJ waking up Steve.

That sounds like an awful experience. I'm sorry you have to suffer so much for your art.

Here's a kangaroo petting a dog
And some dog and rat epic bros

Well...now I'm going to have to give Nora a daemon.

But cute thoughts of JJ's daemon being an itty-bitty Issie and trotting around after her, practising being heroic. I bet JJ has a little Captain America shield that Tony made him.

Tony: Okay, this is not your run of the mill Captain America toy shield made of plastic. This is a top of the line, carbon fibre, awesome toy Captain America shield. You could take down little tiny bad guys with it.
JJ: *throws it. Breaks a computer in the lab*
Mim: I told you should give it to him at Steve's place.
Tony: You did not, you were too excited, don't even start with me.

Yeah. Having to write descriptions of Steve holding Malinois puppies was terrible. But I got through it.

Well...now I'm going to have to give Nora a daemon.

And so it begins.

Mim: I told you should give it to him at Steve's place.

I snort-laughed because this is so Tony. After a minor disaster he'd totally tell himself he should have done the safety thing. But alas he did not so don't even start with him.

And so it begins.

So far top candidate is some sort of lovely coloured songbird or a domestic cat. I like the idea of a cat slinking around her bookstore, but I think the songbird suits her personality a little more. She a bit of a bohemian dreamer type.

I should probably give her a last name before I give her a daemon, though. Priorities!

Mim's personality description in the daemon meme for her: 'she usually notices before Tony does when something isn't right, but by that point it's more 'you shouldn't have done that' and not 'you shouldn't do that'. '

Basically J.A.R.V.I.S' line in IM3 of 'I've prepared a safety briefing for you to ignore' is very apt for Mim's philosophy on life.

I won't pretend I didn't think of some daemon possibilities for Winnie.
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on May 16th, 2015 05:07 am (UTC)
I think I'm going to give Nora a bluebird, which has now given me the added character trait of her liking to garden. JJ can consult with Sherlock on pollination and whether keeping bees would help with her plants.

I'm not sure if I've thought of JJ grown up enough for a daemon, yet. I have to write him before I know what he's like. I think the normal way to do things is to know what the character is like and then write them, but most of my characters create themselves.

It does seem like a lot of characters—but they can't really do the Civil War storyline without a lot of characters, or we'll all be complaining "Where was so-and-so?" (as we all asked where Tony and maybe Bruce were in Winter Soldier). Tony Stark and Steve really go at it in the comic book Civil War, in a way that I don't honestly want to see on screen.

SPOILERS FOR Age of Ultron: It also feels a little redundant. Maybe they meant Ultron to set up for Civil War by putting Steve and Tony at odds, but we've already just seen Tony be really, really wrong and create a complete disaster by being wrong, and I fear Civil War will just be that all over again.

MAYBE A COMIC SPOILER: Steve doesn't actually die in the Civil War comics but later, in a separate set. So they could kill him off at the end of Civil War, but they could also keep him around for a later movie.

Chris Evans has a limited commitment. I'm not entirely sure how they're counting, though, so I'm not sure when to expect him to die! Do they count Loki turning into Steve briefly in The Loki Movie? Will they just use Evans in flashbacks in movies and count those?

I'm not happy thinking about the next Cap movie. I wish they weren't doing Civil War at all. I read all the comic books, and I didn't enjoy them. (At least I didn't buy them. Brilliant Husband had bought them all back when.)

See, this is my problem with the Civil War movie happening so soon after we just saw Age of Ultron. It's like two films of Tony Stark being So Wrong It's Not Even Funny Wrong and that feels a bit dangerous.

Yeah, I wonder about this a well. If they do count the Thor 2 cameo then Cap 3 is officially Chris Evans' last film. If they don't, he owes them one more. I guess that's the suspense. But to be honest, even if they keep Evans alive for another movie, I keep worrying they're going to kill him off to make way for the next phase of Marvel movies with someone else at Captain America helm. I somehow pray they'll just have Steve retire or something and pass the shield on.

I guess the Civil War storyline is essentially happening to set up the rest of the MCU for the next phase. Which I sort of get but this is where the interconnectedness of the MCU annoys me because I feel like we're losing the opportunity to get a more solid character study out of Steve who never interests me as a superhero but always interests me as a person who is trying to maintain a good life despite all the crap life has thrown at him.

Hey, if you get a minute and don't mind terribly, could you do the daemon meme for Peggy and Takeo? I'm fairly certain they're going to show up in this story and Haddie is probably going to be talking to him, so I'd like to do my best to make him sound right.

formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on May 17th, 2015 04:31 pm (UTC)
Sure! It's brief but hopefully helpful.

Animal: Spotted hyena

Name: Takeo

Nickname: Doesn't have one

Major Personality Traits: Takeo is a sociable, intelligent, quick-witted daemon. He's fiercely loyal, honest, and open to those he is friends with and trusts. When around strangers, however, he tends to actively work to be secretive and misdirect. When on the field, he can change his postures and behavior to blend in to whatever cover story he and Peggy have going.

How he/she sleeps: He sleeps by the foot of Peggy's bed. When they're on the field and are roughing it, he'll still sleep by her feet to keep them warm.

How he/she travels with his/her human: Takeo walks next to her, almost always close by her side. Even during combat situations, he remains close to her.

What he/she does when his/her human is at rest: During Peggy's rare down times, Takeo will curl up on the floor near her if it's just the two of them. If there's someone else around, he'll make an effort to chat.

Favourite forms before he/she settled: Takeo always enjoyed being very strong animals like horses, cheetahs, and boa constrictors.

What his/her voice sounds like: Takeo has a brisk, clipped voice with a strong British accent. However, if they're undercover, he can take on a myriad of accents to match their story.

Groovy, thanks!

I just wanted to have an idea of how chatty Takeo might be or if he and Haddie would be formal or a little more friendly, and how they might arrange themselves while Peggy and Jarvis are having their tea.

Is Takeo likely to play with baby!Mim or be more reserved?

He'd totally play with baby!Mim. Just in the way that I think Peggy would love to hold Tony and play with him.

Cool. I'm sure Jarvis and Haddie will welcome the child minding break. They've be at it since 8 o'clock this morning and aren't sure when they're likely to be off-duty again.

ETA: I feel like I need to share this with you.
