Reliving My Childhood + Adding in My Adulthood
I recently restarted my Netflix account due to them offering a free month and ended up rewatching Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 which I hadn't watched in 20 years.

I'd forgotten how much I love these movies. Sure, seeing them through adult eyes means there are some things that I raise an eyebrow at. Like Dana being constantly hit on by Louis and Janosh and even Peter at the start of the first movie is basically harassment. I also asked more adult-like questions while watching the movie such as did the Ghostbusters take into consideration the amount of property damage they'd have to pay for when they charge their clients for eliminating a ghost? On their first job they charged $5000 but considering that they blew up a housekeeping cart, put a hole in a hallway wall, destroyed a chandelier, and scorched an entire ballroom, doesn't the difference put them in the red rather than the client? Or is there a clause saying they're not responsible for damages to property sustained on the job? Yeah, I never asked those questions as a kid.

But being an adult did very little to detract my enjoyment of seeing people get slimed or that dancing toaster or the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man or the Statue of Liberty walking to Jackie Wilson or the very classic "Do, Re, Egon!" moment. I loved these movies as a kid and I love them still as an adult.

As a kid, I watched these movies on near constant repeat with my cousins. My favorite Ghostbuster was Egon Spengler while Peter Venkman was the one most revered by my cousins. I loved that Egon's humor was always a little off and I especially adored that despite the fact that he's arguably the most scientific one of the bunch, he sometimes did his experiments like this. He also loved junk food and used a Twinkie to explain "science." He was perfect. I was quite saddened when Harold Ramis passed away back in February. Seeing this fanart now didn't help.

Also in rewatching the films, I had the thought that Carlos the Scientist and Egon should grab coffee sometime. They'd probably get on fairly well. In fact, the Ghostbusters in general would probably find Night Vale fascinating. Although Night Vale would probably resent them for trying to get rid of their ghosts. The ghosts probably file their taxes on time and are well respected Night Vale citizens. Their status of being non-corporeal doesn't mean they don't have rights! Actually, either Carlos and Egon would be BFF science bros or Egon would be Carlos' Steve Carlsberg. Like Carlos would be offended and irrationally angry every time he heard about Egon and his paranormal research. That might be funnier.

Ow that fanart!

Ahahaha Ghostbusters was actually one of my fic fandoms way back in the day (well, the RGB cartoon, but that was based on the movies, so...) The urge to write a WTNV crossover is strong. I love the idea of Egon as Carlos's rival/nemesis, that's beautiful. Especially if Carlos is dismissing all of it - "Unbelievable - 'On the manifestations of post-mortem ectoplasm'! He's actually managed to get another paper published on *ghosts*, of all the malarkey!" "But Carlos, weren't you just researching that haunted house on the corner of Ouroboros and Desert Creek?" "...That's totally different, Cecil."

I love the idea of Egon as Carlos's rival/nemesis,

I'd totally want it to be like Cecil and Steve where Carlos detests Egon and considers him a nemesis and Egon is just oblivious and kind of likes Carlos and his science.

...also oh dear god that fan art HURTS! A LOT!

And yeah, those movies never get old, they just have so very many great scenes/quotable lines!

Egon's my favorite, too. Yeah, the harassment creeped me out a bit when we rewatched to introduce the movie to Daughter, but otherwise, I had a heck of a good time. (I assume there's a waiver for property damage.)

Have you seen where they might do a reboot instead of a sequel with an all-female team?

Really?? Hmmm...that could work. It largely depends on casting and script.
