A few images from season 3 of Sherlock
I maybe really late to the game on this since I avoid the Tumblr tags related to Sherlock. But Buzzfeed has kindly told me that the BBC released 4 on set images for the 3rd season.

I amused myself for a few minutes thinking of captions for each image.

It amuses me to think that the third photo is genuinely Mycroft and John and John is listening while going 'don't look at the scarf, don't look at the scarf'.

Er, fourth photo. Third photo is of a door. Even I can't put that much context into a picture of a door.

That might even apply to Martin Freeman and Mark Gatiss. But having seen some wardrobe choices by Freeman, he's in no place to judge anything.

AD: Sherlock III, scene 1, take 1.
Director: Okay, door. We're going for a sense of foreboding. And action!
Door: *menacing*
Director: Cut! Okay, not bad. Maybe tone down the sinister a bit?

I don't either of them are as bad as poor Benedict before Martin stepped in and told him how to dress.

LOL!

Door: I am RADA-trained, how dare you suggest I need to tone it down. Do you know how many of the great actors I have opened for?!

Photo 1:

Staples: And this is Mark and Steven during Rewrite Day #29 after they realized we'd swapped out their regular coffee for decaf. Boy, were they livid! That's the knife Mark used to take a swipe at us! Hahaha!

Photo #2:

Lawes: So if you need to make a quick escape, you just run down there and the car will be waiting for you. We have your double on standby so hopefully the fans will chase after him.

Hehe!

I love how bored the lady with the umbrella is in the fourth photo. 'Yeah, holding an umbrella over the head of a BAFTA winning actor, ho-hum.' Or maybe she's trying not to look at the scarf either.

Randomly, I have such love for Cumberbatch's eye crinkles when he smiles. I think they're adorable.

WHAT? Are there photos, and where do I find them?

The thought of Martin Freeman telling anyone how to dress makes me smile. Could be worse. Did you see what Sylvester McCoy wore to one of the press gigs for Hobbit? If not, http://www.list.co.uk/article/47489-sylvester-mccoy-the-hobbit-role-was-shitty/.

Apparently Martin is quite a label snob. He's very into fashion.

You can see some highlights here (warning for a tumblr link. The whole blog is dedicated to his outfit choices, but he hasn't been giving them much fodder since he started smartening up. It's more an issue of odd layering and very poor tailoring. Which might have just been because he was a jobbing actor and couldn't afford better. He also has a tendency to wear the same thing over and over and over and over and over again for ages if he likes it.

Oops. That could be me. I suppose I shouldn't laugh since I never have to dress up for awards shows.

But I'm laughing anyway, and I called in BH to laugh. Bwahahahaha! Thanks for the link!

He also steals clothes from sets. I've seen him in two different shirts from fortysomething on multiple occasions, five years after the show was filmed. There's also a comment in one of the Sherlock commentaries that he was interviewed once about ten years after leaving school and the interviewer noticed his name stitched into the label, because it was a school shirt.

That's adorable. This makes me like BC more.

He really is just a big kid for all his verbosity and erudition.

I think Tumblr started one for Ben Whishaw who has also made questionable choices. Or if he's to be believed he has people making questionable choices for him.

Well, presumably his clothes are lovingly crafted by fairies and he doesn't want to hurt their feelings.

Which is sweet.

But perhaps these fairies might want to retake some of his measurements?

It's very hard to fit around the faun legs, you know.

What is with his fascination with hats?
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on September 21st, 2013 04:33 am (UTC)
I don't know! He has been blessed with Magical British Hair, why must he cover it?

Exactly! Also, his hats of choice all clash with his face.
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on September 21st, 2013 04:41 am (UTC)
The baseball cap is the worst. I don't mind the fedora so much, but no the baseball cap.

This was all while he was with his girlfriend, too. She could have hidden the hat or something.

Brilliant Husband strongly defends the fedora.

Also, McCoy's jacket is brilliant. I mean terrible. But brilliant.

Yes!

Yes! I keep having to look back at the pictures, because my mind won't hold on to the way it actually looks. I always remember it as being less spectacular than it really is.

Yes! Sometimes I think, "Now there's a man who wants to be noticed!" I wonder if it's compensation for being shorter than most of the men around him?
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on September 21st, 2013 02:53 am (UTC)
I guess that's one way to do it. Some of his choices aren't bad but others are...bad.
