What Happens When I Re-Read "Cloud Atlas"
My day, to quote Harry Dresden was "mixed." That, in combination with me re-reading Cloud Atlas put me in a mood where I constructed some strange headcanon that's a half breed of the book and film-verse for this work with regard to two of the characters.

So to clear my head before going to sleep (or just filling it with even more ideas), I took the headcanon and associations meme and applied it to Robert Frobisher and Rufus Sixsmith. I vaguely told myself I did this to help with a fic. But really it's a case of so much headcanon, so few fics.

Robert Frobisher
What they smell like:
Cigarettes and brandy usually.

How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc):
When Frobisher gets in his more manic moods, he can stay up for hours and hours working. Usually during these periods he can only really sleep if aided by copious amounts of alcohol. When he is able to switch and sleep on a more regular schedule (comparatively regular) and when he's sleeping by himself (rare), he sleeps curled up on his side, buried under blankets.

What music they enjoy:
Frobisher enjoys early Romantic era composers such as Schumann, Chopin, and Strauss. For more modern, he prefers Delius, Mahler, and Ayers.

How much time they spend getting ready every morning:
This depends. If he's waking up naturally with no scheduled agenda, it can take Frobisher a rather extended amount of time to ready himself for the day. However, he's usually waking up to the sound of a irate husband/manager/landlord banging on his door in which case he can be ready in about 3 minutes.

Their favourite thing to collect:
Lovers and attention.

Their family (siblings, parents, extended, etc.):
William Frobisher, Pater (detested)
Livia Frobisher, Mater (largely ignored)
Adrian Frobisher, Elder brother (deceased)

A weird/obscure fear they have:
His world becoming silent, mundane, and ordinary.

A secret skill:
Perhaps not entirely secret, but Frobisher has a talent for manipulating people based on their wishes and desires.

Random associations:
- has a naturally excellent sense of direction which rarely gets utilized but when it does has always been of great service to Frobisher.

- is capable of spontaneous acts of genuine kindness. Once convinced their Latin master to cancel midterm exams as he knew Sixsmith would probably fail them.

- both loves and hates his older brother as his existence and early death meant Frobisher would be forever compared to him but it also gave Frobisher the freedom to then be whoever he chose as it wouldn't matter to anyone.

Rufus Sixsmith
What they smell like:
Chalk, wool, and soap.

How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc):
On his back, half tilted to his left side. He generally likes to keep a regular schedule and even during his student days would make the most of the daytime in the research labs.

What music they enjoy:
Sixsmith, like the rest of his immediate family, doesn't have any particular music he enjoys. His attitude is rather passive about all forms of music which tends to drive Frobisher insane as he attempts to refine Sixsmith's tastes. Later on his life, Sixsmith loves "The Cloud Atlas Sextet" but this is for personal memories rather than an aesthetic appreciation for the music itself.

How much time they spend getting ready every morning:
Generally around 15 minutes. Unless Frobisher has stayed over in which case it's a struggle to start the day.

Their favourite thing to collect:
The only things Sixsmith makes a point of collecting are academic papers. His most important collection of things are the letters from Frobisher.

Their family (siblings, parents, extended, etc.):
George Sixsmith, Father
Lucy Sixsmith, Mother
John Sixsmith, younger brother
Anna Sixsmith, sister-in-law
Megan Sixsmith, beloved niece

A weird/obscure fear they have:
The biggest one already happened. As he got older, Sixsmith also feared his research ending up in the wrong hands.

A secret skill:
Extremely good at holding his alcohol.

Random associations:
- was originally going to apply to read chemistry at Cambridge but was encouraged by his schoolmaster at Gresham to try for physics. The advice was given as the physics department was much more irreverent about the class system.

- much prefers colder weather. The move to California for a time was a dreadful change with regard to climate.

- while a scientist by profession and scientific by nature, continues to leave room for the unexplainable in life that he would categorize as natural, ineffable phenomenon.
