Short Film: Hello Carter
This short film starring Dominic Cooper and Jodie Whittaker has since been made into a feature length film with a recast of Charlie Cox as Carter.

The short is 12 minutes and I really loved it. The acting, the cinematography, the dialogue. It's everything I'd want in a short film and packs in quite a lot.

Carter is clearly a different character than Howard Stark, but Cooper's contained yet slightly hapless bewilderment when Susie goes into labor is how I sort of imagine Howard was like when Maria gave birth to Tony.

Oh, that was lovely, for the all the reasons you mentioned above. I'm a bit sad Cooper isn't going to be in the film, he was very charming there.

Jodie Whittaker always reminds me of Louise Breally for some reason. Which makes watching Return to Cranford a kind of Victorian AU for Molly and Alec in my head. Or maybe the characters reminding me of Molly and Alec made me think that Jodie Whittaker looks like Loo Brealy.

Hee!

Howard: Jarvis, get the helicopter!
Maria: Jarvis, do not get the helicopter, we live ten minutes from the hospital, a car will be just fine.

Hee. It's like fandom-related Chicken or the Egg? discussion.

The whole dialogue with Susie telling Carter to stop being weird totally sounded like something Maria would tell Howard. Only, I imagined the dialogue daemon-style because I'm there right now.

Tomor: Stop being weird.
Dejeni: I'm not being weird.
Tomor: You keep doing those hand gestures every time you talk.
Dejeni: I'm not! *sweeping motion, knocks over water bottle*

William Buxton gives me a lot of inspiration for Alec, so it's quite possible the rest just followed from there.

Awww! Poor Dejeni.

'There is literally nothing for me to do. I can do even less than Howard here. I can stroke you. Do you want to be stroked? ...Do you want to build some--no, probably not the time for that.'

For some reason, I heard the little conversation up there in Pepper and Tony's voices.

Haha! The conversation between Howard and Dejeni is probably a bit the blind leading the blind.

Dejeni: We should bring Maria and Tomor something. They'll be bored in the hospital.
Howard: Like what?
Dejeni: We can bring those bacteria cultures they were growing.
Howard: No, definitely not that.
Dejeni: Maybe we can build something to help them take care of the baby. Like a robotic hugging machine.
Howard: Maria made it clear that she wants to hug the baby herself. And for us to do it too.
Dejeni: ...Okay. But. What if you drop the baby?
Howard: Why would you say that?!

For some reason, I heard the little conversation up there in Pepper and Tony's voices.

Until MCU gives us more Howard Stark, the younger years through Agent Carter, I keep seeing him and Maria as the old school version of Pepper and Tony so that's not surprising.

I love that this is a conversation that Howard and Maria have had. I'm picturing after about two days of Howard insistently asking Tony why he's crying, a machine appears next to Tony's crib which analyzes the crying and gives an assessment of what his needs are.

Dejeni: He's 70% hungry and 30% bored. I'll distract Demira with a toy, you give him the bottle.

Yeah, my Maria has a very Pepper-esque efficiency to her, with maybe a little more softness around the edges.

I love that this is a conversation that Howard and Maria have had.

My angsty brain went with the idea that in the beginning Maria was more insistent that Howard spend quality time with Tony but later took on all the parenting once it was clear to her that Howard was a functioning alcoholic.

I love the image of a raccoon waving a squeaky toy in front of what's either going to be a baby otter or a baby raccoon.

I thought we were going along too happily. To be honest, I expected the short film up there to be very sad, given your tastes. :p

I imagine Jarvis probably stepped in around that point, too, and provided some of the fatherly care.

One of things I find interesting in the hypothetical Pepper and Tony have children thing I'm 100% not working on (*shifty look*) is that Tony is the one who seems to be all over the childcare and interaction while Pepper takes on a more distant role. Not necessarily cold or absent, just more the stereotypical 'no, we need money, I have to work' role. That's why I like when I go off on this weird tangents, I feel like I learn things.

I'd go for otter, just because this remains my headcanon for very baby!Demira and Tomor.

I can totally see the role reversal. Also that Pepper of the two of them is the one with the more nine to five traditional job. Technically, Tony works but being Iron Man and holing up in a lab for hours on end is totally better suited for child-rearing hours. Plus, I get the feeling Tony would actually be pretty good with his kids.

Tomor is one proud daemon in that photo.

It's a miracle no one died or was horribly traumatized in that short. :)

Yeah, he's like this kind of sarcastic, teasing dad who says nothing with any seriousness but who at the same time is stupidly affectionate and won't let you kill yourself, but will support anything you want to do up to the point danger is involved.

Plus, J.A.R.V.I.S is the best babysitter/uncle/nanny ever.

Tomor: *just post delivery, probably a little drugged out from Maria's medicine* I think she looks like me more than you.
Dejeni: Um...yeah, the resemblance is pretty strong there, honey.

I honestly kept waiting for that to happen.

I can see Tony confessing his concerns about impending fatherhood to Pepper and maybe his therapist who gave him the general rule of "Imagine how you would have wanted your own dad to be like and go from there."

Plus, J.A.R.V.I.S is the best babysitter/uncle/nanny ever.

He and DUM-E would make a good team. I know DUM-E is more prone to accidentally dropping things and setting things on fire, but watch it be amazing with taking care of wandering babies.

Hee! Just grabbing a crawling baby by the onesie and holding on until Tony or Pepper gets there.

Tony: Hey, good job, buddy.
DUM-E: *excited weep-woop of delight*
Tony: Hand me that diaper.
DUM-E: *knocks over the entire crib*
Tony: All right, while, I mean, of the two things you could have broken, definitely prefer the crib over the baby. Still doing good there.

DUM-E always pulls through when it counts. It would prevent the baby from falling off the changing table or tumbling down the stairs. But the minute the baby is either in Tony or Pepper's arms, DUM-E accidentally sets a small explosion off in the lab.

This conversation is doing nothing to deter me from actually trying to write this and I just don't need that in my life. I have way too many fics and AUs on the go.

I think this Avengers Christmas party fic is going to end up being two parts, because it keeps growing on me. Bruce decided to have some Feels, so Tony is dealing with that now, just after dealing with Steve's feels.

I just hope I get it done before actual Christmas.

Gosh, that was a side effect I wasn't aiming for at all. *whistles away*

Ahaha! I love that Tony is the one getting stuck dealing with people's feels.

Haha! I feel like I should preface every story I post with 'this is Scribbler's fault'.

Tony is playing Team Dad all over the place.

I'm 100% okay with that.

If it makes you feel any better, I have you to blame for the "Steve Adopts All the Dogs" fic I've been tinkering away at.

We are just terrible awesome influences on each other, I guess.
