Meme (Fragments of Fic Kind)
Taken from the Internet somewhere:

Post a fragment from each WIP you have (or as many as you want to pick).

I have many, MANY WIPs so I just decided to snippet the ones that are more formed. These are significantly less. Like exactly three.

The Sequel to "Be Here" Where Sam Tries to Help Steve Find Bucky
Sam swears he had literally just left this same motel room three hours ago. Looking around he sees the same paisley bedspread, the probably once beige now dark tan carpeting with dubious stains melted into it, the brown curtains. He wonders for the fifth time on this road trip if there’s some sort of code amongst motel keepers that it is forbidden to remodel more than once every 30 years.

It’s been a long three months.

Closing the door behind him, Sam pockets his key and settles down on the eyesore of a bed and at least appreciates the silence and solitude for a few minutes. At the start of their trip, he and Steve had shared a room. It had seemed practical and safer somehow. But well into their time together, it became abundantly clear that separate rooms was in fact a necessity if they were to survive this mission to find Barnes.

With the scant intel they had, Steve had focused on finding every remaining Hydra facility, fearful that after the destruction of the Helicarriers, Barnes would return to a Hydra base as part of his programming. The idea had seemed as good as any at the time, but many Hydra bases later and no sign of Barnes, Sam was starting to doubt this plan.

Most bases were no longer operational but many still were. While Sam felt good about shutting down what remained of this operation at least in the United States, the constant danger of walking into a potential death trap began to wear away at him. He and Steve were only two people and they were taking on an organization that prided itself on growing back two heads when one got cut off. They needed reinforcements. But Steve in his very polite and increasingly annoying way continued to dismiss Sam’s suggestions about contacting other resources. He always gave Sam an out; that he was under no obligations to continue on with Steve and that Sam had done more than enough, earning Steve’s eternal gratitude. With each Hydra compound they located with no trace of Barnes, the more this became Steve’s line. But Sam stubbornly stuck on. Even if at times he wanted to punch Steve in the face for all his insistence that he could do this alone.

The Peggy Carter and Howard Stark Are Work Spouses Fic
Peggy glances at Dr. Cerrera who despite having just seen her coworker die in front of her eyes looks remarkably calm. Pale and clearly shaken but under the circumstances she could be worse. Her blood streaked hands are still gripping the package of research files which Peggy had initially thought completely useless earlier. But now...

"Will we have to wait long?" Dr. Cerrera asks.

"An hour at most, I suspect," answers Peggy. "I'm expecting a call soon." Peggy digs around until she can locate a mostly clean towel to wet by the sink before passing it over. Dr. Cerrera loosens her grip on the files long enough to start wiping down her hands when she glances down to see the streaks of blood now staining the towel.

"Poor Augustin," she whispers.

The radio by Peggy's elbow crackles to life.

"Agent Carter, status report." It's miniscule but Peggy can hear the slight anxiety in Howard's voice. He's probably already gotten reports of the rather massive explosion that's reduced Salvas' lab to ashes.

"Mission completed," Peggy answers.

"You have Dr. Salvas?"

"Dr. Salvas has been killed. I have Dr. Cerrera."

Howard cuts himself off in mid swear at the first piece of information at hearing the second. There's a momentary pause where Peggy can practically see his confusion before he replies with a drawn out, "Okay."

Peggy looks to Dr. Cerrera again who is back to clutching the files with a protectiveness that now makes all the sense in the world. "Don't worry, Stark. She's exactly who you need."

The Stark Family, Daemon-verse Fic
"I can help!" Mim offers, switching to the raccoon form she always goes to whenever she's allowed in Dejeni and Howard's lab.

Dejeni looks at her skeptically over the panel but Demira stubbornly holds out a hand, wiggling her fingers. "I guess, okay," Dejeni points to the large pile of metal tiles she'd just upturned from the boxes. "Take those and start putting them on the panel. Do them in straight lines. This is really important. Straight lines."

"Straight lines," Mim repeats. The job is a little more difficult than she anticipates. It's careful, slow work that doesn't yield immediate results which makes it automatically boring. But Dejeni is being extra careful herself, slowing her usually fast movements so that each tile on her side of the panel is perfectly straight. "What's the panel for?" Mim asks. Maybe if she knew the purpose it would be more exciting.

"It's for a new shielding technology Howard and I are fine tuning. See if we can make something that'll disperse the force of impacts a little," she answers distractedly.

"Like vibranium?" Mim asks, pleased to have remembered the word for it.

Dejeni hums, not looking up from her work. "Only a lot cheaper and a lot less effective. But better than what's out there right now. I made a prototype of this back in the 40s but never got a chance to fully test it on Issie. She was fine with running into enemy bases but sitting with me in a lab for an hour was 'Oh no, no time for that!' Still, I guess she had a point. Time doesn't wait for anyone. Even heroes."

Mim hopes Dejeni isn't going to launch into another Issie story. She gets it. Issie is the greatest daemon to have ever lived. She was perfect and embodied the very spirit of Heroism and Goodness and blah blah. She was also super dull to hear about. Mim knows Tony agrees. Tony always make identical vomiting faces whenever Howard talks about Steve Rogers.

"Are these good?" Mim questions hoping to pull Dejeni out of reminiscing. She gestures to her so far placed tiles.

Dejeni joins her, scrutinizing the work. Mim's heart sinks a little when Dejeni adjusts a few. "Not bad," Dejeni says. "Actually, it's pretty good considering how boring this part is."

Mim fights the urge to turn into a bird and start flying around the lab in glee. "Maybe I can help with the not boring parts after?" she asks, hopefully.

Before Dejeni can answer, Howard is calling for her to get up on the table to help adjust something that's deep inside the machine. Mim can hear Tony protesting that he can do it as his hands are small enough but Howard ignores him and calls Dejeni again who scurries over.

Oh, poor Mim! Poor Tony! We finally watched IM2, and I was yelling at the Howard Stark on the screen. Couldn't you have told Tony WHEN HE WAS A KID that you loved him and thought he was smart? No! You just shooed him away from your precious model!

I'm eager to see the next Sam and Steve (and maybe Bucky?) story! And the Peggy and Howard one too, but I don't have a strong feel for Howard the way I do for the other characters.

As much as I was happy Howard left some sort of message to Tony, I kept thinking, "You really couldn't have left that message somewhere a little more accessible or you know, just tell him to his face???"

I'm eager to see the next Sam and Steve (and maybe Bucky?) story! And the Peggy and Howard one too, but I don't have a strong feel for Howard the way I do for the other characters.

Yup, Bucky does an appearance. If things go according to writing plans, there will be one more story after this one that ties off for me my take on the whole, "Does Steve Find Bucky and How Do Things Go?" story line.

I wrestle with Howard a bit. I feel like I have a better feel for him from the Captain America movie era since he was on screen for more than five minutes. The one in the Iron Man movies is mainly there for a few seconds and is largely shown through Tony's eyes which is not terribly ideal.

Oh the last one! That's so cute and sad and funny, and you have Mim (and Issie) so perfect. I can't wait to see the full thing. I love the idea of Tony wanting so hard to help. Look at you writing kid!fic! With fluffy animals.

The others look great, too. Huzzah for writing!

Poor Tony and Mim just want to spend some time with Howard and Dejeni.

Look at you writing kid!fic! With fluffy animals.

The fluffy animals really helps with the kid part for me.

you have Mim (and Issie) so perfect.

Ee, thanks! Coming from their creator that's the highest praise I can ever get.
