Fandom Done So Right
As most of you who listen to Cabin Pressure already know, the series is coming to an end with one final episode (they reached Z!). The final recording happened back in February and while we don't have a broadcast date yet, John Finnemore is speculating maybe Christmas time.

I may be very late to the game (as this happened back in March) but fans of Cabin Pressure from all over the world organized themselves and put together a compilation video thanking the show from all their respective countries in various languages and tipping their hats to various Cabin Pressure moments (lemons and yellow cars!). The video is unbelievably sweet and really shows you the magic that can happen when fandom is done right.

John Finnemore talks about it in his blog entry where he also thanks the fans for all the other wonderful ways in which they've gone about saying goodbye to the show. That art book sounds pretty lovely. I'm not ashamed to admit that I am curious what the crew would look like if they were all cats.

I loved the thoughtfulness of that video when it first happened, but since then, I have come to admire even more that it was a) wonderfully organized (I followed the tumblr for a while, and they were even coordinating people in the same area so they could get together to contribute if they wanted), b) free of any wank, c) tasteful and not over-the-top, and d) not creepy. In the world of tumblr fandom, that's as rare as a unicorn. Well done, CP fandom! And this is their second achievement. The first was the lovely Travelling Lemon Project.

Honestly, the most wank I've ever seen from the CP fandom was when Finnemore casually mentioned Martin might be balding a little on the top of his head, and the Martin fangirls had a minor crisis that ended when he pointed out that he'd never mentioned it on the show, and had no intentions to. Therefore, anyone could still see Martin how they wanted.

Otherwise, I don't think I've seen any other crises, aside from the standard cliffhanger wringing of hands. Everyone seems to exist quite peacefully. Though I have stayed off the tag since the last episode was recorded for fear of being accidentally spoiled by people who were at the recording. There may have been drama since.

No kidding! I almost can't believe it happened.

Oh yes, I remember that. But it was nice that fans of CP seem pretty mellow so even this crisis among the Martin fangirls seemed miniscule compared to other stuff going down in other fandoms.
