The Starks: Daemon-style
While this probably won't figure into the next MCU fic I put out, I did spend some time creating a daemon for Maria Stark since I'd made one for Howard and awanderingbard created a brilliant one for Tony.

Howard Stark
Dejeni is a raccoon. Intelligent and somewhat unpredictable, raccoons are adept at solving puzzles and enjoy being social with one another. They use their hands quite extensively to explore the world and 'wash' their food. Usually she's alongside Howard while he's building, usually providing tools or reaching in to do more of the delicate work that requires smaller hands. As per her animal form, Dejeni is quite social, enjoys chatting with people, and gets bored easily when there's nothing to really hold her attention. Whenever Howard has to attend meetings and take care of administrative matters, she'll go off as far as she can to try and amuse herself. Usually by taking something apart.

Maria Stark (nee Carrera)
Tomor is an otter. When Maria was young, Tomor spent most of his time in the form of a platypus. It was expected that he would settle into this form. Platypuses are intelligent, resourceful builders whose unusual and unique appearance usually means they aren't taken very seriously. The form befitted Maria's aspiration to become a biologist back in the 1930s when women didn't usually have careers, much less ones in science. Maria still became a biologist but her daemon settled into something a little more traditional. Despite Tomor being ultimately comfortable in this form, he still misses his more unique shape. This also mirrored Maria having to compromise by filtering her work through her male colleagues in order to get her research funded. Maria and Howard meet thanks to a mission run by Peggy Carter while she was still working at the Strategic Scientific Reserve and building S.H.I.E.L.D with Howard.

Tony Stark
Demira is a tailorbird and you can read the full description HERE, written by her creator, awanderingbard.

Oh, I like them! Otters are one of my favourite animals. They're so sweet and have the most lovely, intelligent faces. They're little brats, too. I look forward to seeing everyone in action. I like that Dejeni and Tomor are similarish in their paws and how they use them; it shows a bit of kinship between Howard and Maria.

Yup, I ultimately wanted Maria and Howard's daemons to be a little similar in form so they could go off and build things together while their humans do the same.

Demira can call Tomor "Mo".

Aww! Look at you having vaguely cuddly thoughts that will probably end up in angst!

I was wondering if Q and Bond's daemons have code names. It seems a bit weird if you were hiding your name so carefully and then just gave away the name of your soul. But I don't know what they would be. R? 008? Or just go by their human's code names.

I had some fun sort of ficcing how Maria and Howard meet and the way they end up getting together. And of course the early years when Howard was less an absentee father.

That's a good point. So, I would think that since James Bond has a known name plus a code name, his daemon would share both. A "real" name and a code name. Maybe daemons are 0's instead of double 0's? So 07?

For Q, I'd imagine his daemon's name isn't commonly known in the department. Just like how Q's name isn't commonly known. I don't know how the daemons of agents and the others at Q branch would address her, though. The daemons of Q branch workers could feasibly just call her "ma'am" the way the workers address Q as "sir." I can sort of believe that the daemons of other agents wouldn't address Efie that much, apart from Bond's daemon. Maybe she can make a game of it where she calls Efie random things just to annoy her.

Did that start right away, or did he and Tony have some good years before then?

Yes, I like that idea. Maybe pronouncing it as 'zero-seven' to distinguish the title.

Randomly, in the French dub, they call him double-zéro-sept, which is quite catchy.

That is the cutest thing ever! Little tiny Efie being called 'ma'am'. I'm sort of picturing the minions calling her something like Herself or Her Highness behind their backs.

Minion 1: Herself is giving me the death look again.
Minion 2: Q already took my tea away today, I think he's in a mood.

Maybe she can make a game of it where she calls Efie random things just to annoy her.

Hehehe! That's such a Bond thing to do. Probably a lot of playing around with 'Q'. Q-T being her favourite and Efie's least favourite.

I would say it was a bit back and forth from the start. This won't show up in a daemon-verse fic but I have some stuff written for the Peggy and Howard Are Work Spouses fic where Howard has incredibly mixed feelings about becoming a father when Maria gets pregnant. He and Peggy have a few conversations throughout the years about Howard actually finding it harder to be a father the more he gets to know Tony as a person. He's incredibly proud but at the same time constantly terrified something awful is going to happen. Plus, he's not all that confident that he's the best moral compass for Tony so he's either pushing him toward Maria or constantly telling his son stories about Steve.

I also have a few bits of Peggy meeting Tony when the latter is really little to tie in with the parts in the present time when Tony is an adult and Peggy is an old woman.

That's such a Bond thing to do. Probably a lot of playing around with 'Q'. Q-T being her favourite and Efie's least favourite.

I got this image of Efie getting infuriated enough that she tries to break something under her paw and it doesn't even dent which further enrages her. Which probably would lead to...

Minion 1: Herself is giving me the death look again.
Minion 2: Q already took my tea away today, I think he's in a mood.

That makes a stupid amount of sense. Using Steve as the example of what Tony should be aiming for, while accidentally making him into something Tony can never be. I salute this headcanon.

Hahaha!

She tends to ride in Q's pocket, so I can imagine her getting very stroppy and just completely hiding herself in it, and everyone knows it is not a good time to talk to the Quartermaster.

Minion 1: I don't see Her Highness
Minion 2: Ooh. Better tell him about the glitch another time.

Thanks! I want Tony to remember Peggy even when he was small when he met her because Peggy was the one person who told Tony a Steve story that featured Steve making lousy choices because he was a human.

I feel like A Day in the Life of a Minion would actually be an interesting story to read.

Awww. I bet there's a moment when Tony looks at Steve and thinks 'yeah, you're just as much of a dork as she said you were'.

I LOVE stories from the POV of minor characters! Or even completely background characters.

Yup. The Work Spouse story will begin with Peggy and Howard but end with Tony and Steve where Tony's like, "She once told me the only story where you came out sounding like a dork so that made her my favorite adult for awhile."

Me too! It indulges my love of giving backstory to irrelevant characters while also getting a cool perspective on major ones.

Hee! Sounds very good. I'm looking forward to reading it.

I'm off to bed. G'night!
