The Avengers: Age of Ultron early spoilers
Spoilers for the first 20 minutes of Avengers: Age of Ultron have surfaced. Actually, they surfaced awhile ago but I've only just read them now because I'm perpetually late to things. The spoilers are detailed HERE and a little more HERE.

Okay, amidst some stuff about Hydra and Magneto's kids, I mainly care about the Avengers throwing a party. I'm ridiculously amused that everyone doing a round of "Try to Pick Up Mjolnir" is their party game. I actually laughed a bit when I read Tony's Ironman arm breaks off while trying to lift it. And I may have grinned when reading Steve was able to budge it a little bit. The fact that he can at least shift it even a little is such a perfect illustration of what Steve brings to the table amidst the more super powered characters who can rip apart jets and bring down lightening from the skies.

So Thor and Jane are no longer together? Did they have to try long distance again and she wasn't having it? Also, while I can totally see Bruce and Natasha being a thing, I thought the films were moving toward Clint and Natasha being a couple. Or is it more like they're each other's people rather than romantic partners? I'd actually almost prefer that given their history.

But Thor's on Earth now, he wouldn't be long distance any more. I am dubious and concerned about this. Unless they couldn't get Natalie for the movie again, I don't see how you can spend two movies having Thor fighting essentially for Jane to 'yeah, they broke up off screen'. Maybe they're just having issues and taking a break, and if it's only the first twenty minutes, things might resolve later on.

Oh, God, I must ship them. I have feels about this. Possibly because I just gave Jane a daemon and so I was studying her character and realised I really like her. Crap!

Bruce and Tash I can totally see together, but I find it funny, a little. 'Do you remember that time I Hulked out and tried to drop a floating city on you? Yeah, that's when I knew you were the one.'

Also, side-eyeing that Magneto's kids aren't Romany like they should be, or at least not Very White, since I don't know how many Romany actors there are out there. I suppose that you could make them Irish Travellers, but still.

But Trying to Lift Mjolnir sounds very cool, and I am happy about Avengers happening in general. Yay superheros!

'Do you remember that time I Hulked out and tried to drop a floating city on you? Yeah, that's when I knew you were the one.'

I heard this rather perfectly in Mark Ruffalo's drawling voice.

I have no clue how much they're planning on rewriting or just not discussing the background for Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch since legally this film cannot mention mutants or Magneto.

Yeah, I know they were Avengers, but it would make more sense to bring in Ant-Man and Wasp, who were original members, than some of the X-men/Brotherhood characters who will have to have their backstory rewritten.

Especially now that the Ant Man movie switched directors which doesn't sound so promising, it would have made more sense to fold that character into the Avengers.

I just looked this up, because I hadn't hear about the director change. I always love the term 'creative differences'. It just makes me think of someone throwing paint brushes on the floor and storming out.

I see they're going for Scott Lang as Ant-Man, and not Hank Pym. Which I guess means no Wasp, or at least not one currently fighting. Unless she's a badass granny Wasp.

Hee! I have this image of Edgar Wright breaking his paint brushes in half and storming out after angrily knocking down Marvel's easel.
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on June 21st, 2014 11:52 pm (UTC)
I can actually see Edgar Wright doing this, for some reason. While wearing a beret.

The storm out would be filmed in his style too. Quick cuts with intense closeups.
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on June 21st, 2014 11:55 pm (UTC)
With Nick Frost and Simon Pegg starring.
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on June 21st, 2014 11:59 pm (UTC)
It can be a Cornetto Trilogy bonus short film.

I didn't want to get spoiled too much, but I did want a little fix, and I did want to be able to talk about the movie here, so I kind of looked at the links from between my fingers.

So Thor and Jane are no longer together?
Nooo! Did someone decide they have too many women in this series?! Or was it, as awanderingbard suggested, that they can't get Natalie Portman? She might be unavailable, or she might just be too expensive. I mean, look at that cast list and think about the money they must be spending!

But I like Jane!

I'm not sure about Bruce and Natasha. I totally missed the arrow necklace she was wearing in CA:TWS, but once I saw a close-up, I thought Clint and Natasha. I can imagine Bruce having problems getting close to anyone. Except maybe Tony, and we know how that went—I think I hurt myself laughing at the end of Iron Man 3.
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on June 21st, 2014 10:12 pm (UTC)
She might be unavailable but why then write her out like this? I feel like there are better ways to explain Jane's absence then say she and Thor are no longer together. That feels lazy.

Refresh my memory, what happened at the end of Iron Man 3?

aelfgyfu_meadaelfgyfu_mead on June 21st, 2014 10:38 pm (UTC)
Yes, it would be terribly lazy just to break them up!

Here's what happened at the end of Iron Man 3: post-credit scene from IM3. I love that scene. It's so wrong, and yet. . . .
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on June 21st, 2014 10:43 pm (UTC)
Hahaha! Poor Bruce. You can practically see his internal speech bubble go, "Oh GOD..." when Tony starts up again.
aelfgyfu_mead: Winter Soldieraelfgyfu_mead on June 21st, 2014 11:05 pm (UTC)
And Tony is deliberately doing the worst thing he can think of: he had a nanny that late? Nobody wants to hear that! He may have made it up to punish Bruce for falling asleep on him.

I love that Tony bared his soul to Bruce. I feel kind of bad that Bruce wasn't listening! I saw a fanfic—wish I could remember which one!—where Tony gently tells Bucky that he needs to talk about what happened to him, and adds as an aside that Bruce isn't as good a listener as he seems.

That sounds like Tony. He'd probably then move onto his first sexual experience and/or fantasies. I'm sure Bruce will love that.

I would pick none of the Avengers as my therapist. If I had to at gunpoint, I'd probably select Jarvis. He has a soothing voice and can at least research effective therapeutic interventions while listening to come up with decent responses. Actually, there probably already is fic out there of Jarvis giving Bucky therapy.

I'll let you know if I see any! I haven't yet.
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on June 21st, 2014 11:47 pm (UTC)
Yes, please do! Now I'm sort of on board this idea of Jarvis being Bucky's therapist. Jarvis wouldn't have to worry about accidentally getting killed during the process.
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on June 22nd, 2014 12:09 am (UTC)
Someone should write A Day in the Life fic of Jarvis' day. Like, 4:30AM, open doors to gym for Mr Rogers and Miss Romanov to work out. 4:35AM, remind Mr Stark he has not yet been to bed. 5:30AM, warm showers to desired temperature for Mr Rogers and Miss Romanov. 6:00AM, remind Mr Stark that it is now 6:00AM and he has not yet been to bed. 6:30AM, place coffee orders for Miss Potts to pick up on her way in. 7:00AM, greet Miss Potts and inform her Mr Stark has not yet been to bed...
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on June 22nd, 2014 12:16 am (UTC)
Hahaha! Although I feel like Jarvis' diary would be doubled up. You know he probably does about three things at the same time.

So if Paul Bettany is playing The Vision as well as Jarvis in the next movie, is he going to do different voices as well?
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on June 22nd, 2014 12:40 am (UTC)
You know he probably does about three things at the same time.

This is true. Jarvis is totally the real hero of the avengers.

Man, I am so out of the loop I did not know that he was doing that. Is he going to romance Elizabeth Olsen? Or rather, her romancing him? There's a bit of an age gap there, but then The Vision is an android, so...

Why do I know all this Marvel stuff? Why? Where does this come from? Is it from modding an X-men RPG? Is it from having an older brother? Why does my brain only retain knowledge that has no practical use?

Anyway, I imagine he'll have to use a different voice. Unless he's programmed with Jarvis' voice.
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on June 22nd, 2014 12:50 am (UTC)

I'm still waiting for that fic where Jarvis and mostly sentient Mjolnir save the Avengers from the X-Men.

Unless he's programmed with Jarvis' voice.

That would feel so wrong for some reason.

I'll save that for when I'm in a crack!fic mood.

That would feel so wrong for some reason.

Well, he's pretty good at accents, so he could probably pull off something else. Though he always sounds like Paul Bettany, so I dunno.

formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on June 22nd, 2014 01:07 am (UTC)

I imagine Tony would be weirded out by it. Or really fascinated. Or both.

"I don't why, but whenever you talk, I just feel like I need to do what you say or Pepper is going to yell at me."
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on June 22nd, 2014 01:47 am (UTC)
I'm sure Jarvis would make some sort of crack of offering the Vision housing if he would assist in getting Tony to sleep during regular hours.
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on June 22nd, 2014 02:15 am (UTC)
"I've always said I could get more accomplished with arms, sir."
"And I've always not given you arms because you'll take over the world, Jarvis. I can't responsible for that kind of thing. You have DUM-E, that's as much I think is safe."
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on June 22nd, 2014 02:27 am (UTC)
DUM-E: *wheels into a corner and gets stuck there by accident*

Jarvis: I see.

Tony: Yep, totally safe.
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on June 22nd, 2014 02:34 am (UTC)
Aww, DUM-E. I heart DUM-E. He's so hopelessly helpful. I love that Tony has given all his creations such personality.
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on June 22nd, 2014 02:34 am (UTC)
One of my favorite parts of the first Iron Man movie is DUM-E's poor timing with the fire extinguisher.
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on June 22nd, 2014 02:35 am (UTC)
I love him handing Tony the arc reactor like a helpful puppy, and his little 'baroo' head tilt.

This is why Tony will never scrap DUM-E. He's totally adorable and helpful when it counts.
