Meme (Questioning Kind)
Taken from awanderingbard:

Give me the name of a character I write or have written, and a number from the list below. I'll answer the question.

1. What is the best thing in your character’s life?
2. What is the worst thing in your character’s life?
3. What seemingly insignificant memories stuck with your character?
4. What is your character reluctant to tell people?
5. How does your character feel about sex?
6. What would your character make a scene in public about?
7. What are your character’s major flaws?
8. What does your character pretend or try to care about?
9. What is your character afraid of?
10. What is something most people in your setting do that your character thinks is dumb?

Feel free to ask for OCs and AU versions of characters. Also feel free to ask for more than one character, or more than one question.

Could I get 3 and 5 for Q and/or 8 and 10 for Steve Rogers, please?
formerly lifeinsomniac: Steve Rogersjoonscribble on June 6th, 2014 09:15 pm (UTC)
I went with the version of Q who is a Holmes brother because apparently that's the only version that's ever entered my brain.

Q

3. What seemingly insignificant memories stuck with your character?

Q has memories of a particular armchair that used to reside in their family's summer home in France. It was a somewhat hideous ornate green-gold velour and jacquard fabric thing with painted gold accents on the legs that was overly stuffed. No one ever sat in it as most found it somewhat uncomfortable (seat too hard, back too soft) but as a child, Q found it the most comfortable spot in the house. He used to curl up in it and read.

5. How does your character feel about sex?

Much like his brother Mycroft, Q understands why most people enjoy sexual activities and has experimented to see what all the fuss is about. While he found it enjoyable enough, he's a little astonished by how much time and effort people are willing to put into pursuing sex. He imagines he'd have to quit his job if he was going to try and average most people's efforts and sheer expenditure of energy.

Steve Rogers

8. What does your character pretend or try to care about?

Steve tries to care more about his dating life. Natasha has been not at all subtly pressing him to ask out various women from work, near his apartment, near the park where he jogs, that one time they had to attend that fundraiser Stark threw, etc. Steve has argued women would find it creepy for a random guy in a park to ask them out. Natasha has counter-argued that most women would be able to recognize he's Steve Rogers and not some random guy. Steve counter-counter argued that that does not help. He still hasn't done anything about it.

10. What is something most people in your setting do that your character thinks is dumb?

Steve doesn't understand people's obsession with taking photos of their new shoes or food and/or drinks they're about to eat/drink. He was also initially confused why people kept putting number signs in front of words when posting these photos. Stark explained to him what a hashtag was. Steve was not at all impressed.

Aww, Q and his chair! That's very sweet. And very Holmesian that it's an object he remembers, and his memory doesn't involve people.

He imagines he'd have to quit his job if he was going to try and average most people's efforts and sheer expenditure of energy.

Ha! Maybe people just don't work quite as hard as you at their jobs, honey.

Natasha has counter-argued that most women would be able to recognize he's Steve Rogers and not some random guy. Steve counter-counter argued that that does not help.

I have to say 'Hello, I'm Steve Rogers' is a pick-up line that would work on me. He's totally my kind of guy--nice, polite, gentlemanly, able to look after you, and goes away a lot so suits my anti-social tendencies. He would probably go away just as I'm sick of being around people.

Stark explained to him what a hashtag was. Steve was not at all impressed.

Me neither, Steve. Me Neither.

Aww, Q and his chair!

Every once in awhile he wonders whatever happened to that chair. It's no longer at the summer house so he assumes Mummy either sold it or burnt it as it was hideous and useless to everyone who was not child!Q.

I have to say 'Hello, I'm Steve Rogers' is a pick-up line that would work on me.

No kidding! I guess Steve would rather he be able to meet a nice girl who likes him as Steve rather than Steve Rogers, Captain America. Still, I'm way less impressed with how many Nazis he punched and more that he's a polite, nice guy.

Me neither, Steve. Me Neither.

I still think about # as a number sign. Whatever, hashtags.

It reminds me a little of John's chair on the Sherlock set which everyone says is horribly uncomfortable but Martin won't let them change it because he likes like that.

Still, I'm way less impressed with how many Nazis he punched and more that he's a polite, nice guy.

Yeah, me too. Steve Rogers was hot even before the Captain America serum. I dig Little Steve, too.

I have never used a hashtag, and am very proud of it. I had to explain the concept to my mum the other day, but I don't think she got it.

P.S I'll just drop these off here:

Bruce & Nemi (looking very happy, maybe Tony and Demira are being stupid in the background)

Howard and Dejeni (looking smug)

Pepper and Amerigo (looking patient)

Thor and Svana (looking noble)

Q's chair was partly inspired by a set of chairs my grandparents used to have. I never sat in them because they looked really ornate but word was it was more for show than comfort.

Eeee! The daemons! Aw, Bruce and Nemi look so chill. You'd never know there's a seething mass of rage lurking beneath. And Howard and Dejeni look sort of perfect. Indeed, very smug.

Yeah, I sort of had to work with what I could find. There aren't a lot of pictures of Qinling pandas out there, or Mark Ruffalo sitting down. But I also I like to think Nemi is actually pretty cheerful and mellow by nature. Except when she's a giant green rage bear.

And Howard and Dejeni look sort of perfect. Indeed, very smug.

I was so pleased to find that picture of Howard. It looks so much like Howard.

While Dominic Cooper looks nothing like John Slatterly who played Howard Stark in the Iron Man films, he looks a lot like he would be the father of Robert Downey Jr.

That's so strange. I would assume there would be tons. :D

I'm still a little unsure about how Howard actually aged, to be that old in the 40's and that young in the 80's, but I do really think Dominic was a great casting choice for RDJ's dad. Even the eyes and smirk match.

Not enough men running around in panda suits, I suppose.

If we were to generously say Howard was as young as 25 in the 1942, he would still have to be at least in his 60s in the 80s when he dies. Yeah, Slattery!Howard is looking pretty good for a guy in his 60s who was also an alcoholic in that video footage. Guess all the drinking worked for him in his case.

Again, so surprising. I'd think a lot of guys would be all over the panda suits.

Worked for Tony, too, really. I'm not sure how old he's supposed to be in canon, but RDJ hardly looks his age either.

It's the Stark genes. Super genius, looks better with prolonged consumption of alcohol.

Poor Maria. I'm always quite interested in those that are the parents or spouses of the geniuses, and how they deal with that stuff. You'd have to be pretty kickass on principle.

Agreed. I can't find that much information on Maria Stark. There were apparently alternate versions of her since comics love their alternate versions. In one she was a scientist in her own right, which is nice. Given what film!Howard said about focusing on his work rather than women, I'd like to think Maria was pretty awesome.

Ooh, I just found out Dominic is going to be in the Agent Carter tv series as I was searching for info. Bonus.

I'm guessing she's probably rather younger than him, given that Howard had to be at the minimum about 45 when Tony was born, which is a bit old for a woman to have a baby in those days. Not impossible, but less likely.

*takes off Sherlock hat*

Oooh! That'll be cool. Of course, much like me now believing Q is a Holmes brother while watching the show Sherlock, I'm now expecting daemons to pop up in the MCU-related media. Dammit, brain.

Probably. In the version where Maria was a scientist, she dies during childbirth so being as old as Howard might work there. But going by the filmverse, I'd assume Maria was younger. And given the times, she likely gave up or cut back a lot on her own work once she married and had a family.

I was out for a walk with Ascii and a little bird landed on the fence next to us and I had contemplating fic, and for about two seconds I went 'oh, there's someone's daemon'. Yep. Dammnit, brain.

And given the times, she likely gave up or cut back a lot on her own work once she married and had a family.

Rather like raising the Holmes brothers, I imagine raising Tony was a full-time job, considering he went to university at 15 or something. He was probably creating nuclear reactors in the basement by five.

I was just reading about the Ultimate version of her, and it turns out she's Latino, which totally explains what I thought Tony Stark was Latino and wondered why they'd cast RDJ for the role originally. The only comic images I'd seen of him was from the Ultimate version, where he's half-Latino and is Antonio Stark. I feel vindicated, as my brother thought I was very weird when I mentioned that I'd thought Tony was Latino
