Captain America: The First Avenger Daemons
Oh, god. Someone send help.

Peggy Carter
Takeo is a spotted hyena. Along with being selective hunters, spotted hyenas are known to be intuitive problem solvers who work well with others to achieve an objective. Also cunning and deceptive, they are not easy animals to trap. They also have a myriad of ways of communicating through both voice and postures.

Howard Stark
Dejeni is a raccoon. Intelligent and somewhat unpredictable, raccoons are adept at solving puzzles and enjoy being social with one another. They use their hands quite extensively to explore the world and 'wash' their food. I had this mental image of Stark working on that flying car while Dejeni mimics his movements, touching and tapping at the tools.

Arnim Zola
Acantha is a rook. Rooks are clever and have a scary capacity to build tools with materials around them to fulfill a goal. While Zola experiments with soldiers, Acantha would sit on his shoulder and just stare at them. Stare, stare, and stare.

Don't worry, we'll get through this together. I totally did not spend quite a bit of my morning trying unsuccessfully to put a tailorbird on Tony Stark's shoulder. Though, I did learn they do in fact hang upside down to look at things.

I love the idea of Howard's daemon being a racoon, and Peggy's is perfect as well. As is Zola's. I gave Hrothbert of Bainbridge a rook in my mini!Dresden's verse.

I don't know if the solution is to geek out more with someone or get someone to stop me.

I imagine Howard himself not exhibiting hyper behavior (since Dominic Cooper plays him with more suave, easy charm) but Dejeni is a little more hyper and prone to show how excited she is by new shiny things (like Tony as a person).

Zola and Acantha are creepy when they're working. They rarely talk to each other in public and even though she doesn't need to, Acantha would whisper most things to Zola.

It did wear off for me before, so hopefully the same will happen with you. It's probably best to get it out of your system. Maybe. I don't know about you, but my obsessions come and go and come back again.

Sounds like Mycroft and Hisoka. They barely acknowledge the others' existence, and Soka likes to sit on Mycroft's shoulder and stare at you while he's talking, her head cocked to one side.

Also, Acantha is a beautiful name.

Yeah, that's about the same for me. I have these intense waves of obsessing and then it sort of has to fizzle out as some point. So I guess I'll just obsess away.

In my head this happens with Zola and Acantha because there are brief moments when Zola does feel the slightest flicker of "Mm. This is quite inhumane" when he experiments on people but he's super-active in trying to keep those thoughts to himself. At other times she's advising him on what he needs to do in order to survive, even if it means betraying people.

Also, Acantha is a beautiful name.

Thanks! I may have sounded it out a bunch of times in my head in Toby Jones' voice.

I find when I write Tzophiya, she tends to be aware that Sherlock is being an arse, and warns him against it, but doesn't seem to know quite why she's doing it. 'You shouldn't say that because...reasons'.

It's lovely. Seriously, it's a name I would consider giving to a child if I had a child and was slightly posh.

Hee!

I'm having a lot of fun imagining how each character would interact with their daemon. I have images of whenever Howard is dealing with something more administrative and deathly boring, Dejeni is impatiently scurrying up to him and showing him things being all, "We should try to improve on this gun model. Look! Look! We can shorten the reload time by at least 3 seconds! Look!!"

Awww!

Where Issie sits very attentively with her ears perked up and thoughtfully considers everyone's opinions on the subject.

Oh God, I just had an image of Demira pretending to be a racoon like Dejeni when before she settled, and using her little paws to practice building things.

Erm, sorry for kid!ficcing over your headcanon.

Tony and Demi were cooperative for their portrait this afternoon.

And I'm off to celebrate my b-day with the family, so I'll talk to you laters.

I realized just now that both Tony and Howard's daemons names are similar. I guess my unconscious helped me out there.

Erm, sorry for kid!ficcing over your headcanon.

Feel free to kidfic away. Especially since I sort of took Issie for my somewhat sadder post-Cap2 ficlet.

And I'm off to celebrate my b-day with the family, so I'll talk to you laters.

Happy birthday! Hope it's filled with loveliness and cake!

The wildly accepted fanon (agreed upon as a good idea by Pullman) is that the parents daemons name the child's daemon, so maybe Dejeni specifically choose something similar to herself. Tony is Anthony Howard Stark, after all.

Happy birthday! Hope it's filled with loveliness and cake!

Thank you, both loveliness and cake were involved.

And, playing around with my new drawing tablet: Clint and Jasna

All your portraits are so good! They're done so seamlessly.

True. I unexpectedly had a rush of feelings when rewatching the first Cap movie and reconciling that Dominic Cooper will eventually grow up to become Tony's somewhat cold, alcoholic father who still loved his son and thought of him as his greatest creation.

Guess I'll go back to imagining cute animals now.

Thank you! The watercolour effect really helps hide the seams. I think I'm getting better as I go along, which is why you practice things.

Yeah, I know! I loved Howard in Cap, and I think Steve is probably really sad about what happened, too. I don't know what new information pops up in Cap2, but I think for someone like Howard and Tony, not being able to solve a problem (like finding Cap in the ice) would just haunt them, because everything comes so easily and they never have to deal with failure that can't be remedied with a few moderations to the design.

I could write more kid fic if you want.

The new info wasn't exactly ground breaking but just seeing a photo of Howard in that film made me think about how he was a founder of Shield with Peggy and tried to uphold the ideals that Captain America stood for. But like others, I got the feeling he struggled with a lot of gray area.

I could write more kid fic if you want.

I'm always up for kid fic from you. If animals are involved I'd be officially a pile of marshmallows and smiley faces.

Hmm, aside from my mini!Dresden daemons fic (which is a little sad), I have little in that category. I should get on that. Whole new area of fluff to cover.

You should. It'll make me feel better after I open up this new can of Angst via this DaemonsAU.

I feel like we're digging parallel trenches and communicating via tin can phones.
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on June 2nd, 2014 02:47 am (UTC)
Pretty much.

Me: So, are your characters being wonderfully fluffy while their daemons playfully bat at each other?

You: Yup. Everyone crying on your end?

Me: Yup.

Hahahaha! Yep, definitely our fic styles in a nutshell.

Okay, last one for tonight.

Cap and Issie.

It was quite a hard one to do, and I feel like it's a bit iffy, but I also sort of think it looks like the recruitment posters of Cap.

The dog has a collar on, so I'm just going to say that daemons in the army have to wear dog tags, and those are hers. Because removing them would be really hard.

Eeee! Cuteness abounds! It's really well done, the image.

Probably like Steve and his uniform being more a costume initially, the collar can be the collar Issie had to wear when Capt. America was more an entertainment act. Like Steve who kept his outfit with some modifications, she decided to keep them though as they grew on her when they became active soldiers.

Oh, that's nice. I originally envisioned her as having some sort of goggles or something like Cap does, as part of her costume, but I like the idea of maybe putting a patriotic ribbon around her neck that eventually turned into something meaningful to her.

formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on June 2nd, 2014 03:45 am (UTC)
This is me continuously being curious but also ignorant of largely how the HDM world works: when someone needs to put things like a ribbon Issie, would the person hand it to Steve to put on her? Or does the person's daemon put it on Issie? I assume it's the former.

Although my own headcanon budged in with "But think how cute it would be if Howard's raccoon daemon tied stuff around Issie while Howard handed Steve the modified uniform?!!"

Uh, sorry.

But in conclusion: Issie and Steve look lovely together in your picture.

I've encountered this sort of problem with unconscious daemons and how one moves them to safety. I decided that either the rescue daemon carries them or they have some sort of mechanical device to move them. But in that case, I think Steve would tie the ribbon, but I don't see any harm in Dejeni doing it if she's capable. The Starks aren't exactly masters of respecting personal space. She might be so excited about it that she can't wait for Howard to hand it to Steve and just does it herself.

I'm afraid this the sort of world building you have to do when you adapt it to a new verse. It's fun, and basically I make up my own rules if necessary.

But in conclusion: Issie and Steve look lovely together in your picture.

Thank you!
