Night Vale: Missing
I better hurry the hell up with my Night Vale fic before the canon that's getting churned out makes it impossible.

Dammit, why must this show give me so much anxiety? Such sweet, sweet anxiety.

After the last episode that was sinister in a completely lazy sort of way, we get one where the danger is so much more in your face. I loved StrexCorp's not so subtle method of trying to locate Tamika. I loved their not so subtle robot supervisor that was assigned to Cecil. I loved how the town of Night Vale obviously protected Tamika and Cecil not so subtly reported on it. I loved how subtly Cecil (for Cecil anyway) was sending out a coded message to the citizens about taking a stand at the midpoint of the episode that became a much more straightforward message of rising up against StrexCorp after they shut him down.

So yeah, I was a little freaked out when StrexCorp actually shut Cecil down. That was a first and I sort of fear what the next episode will be. I mean, I'm assuming Cecil will be back since he is the star of this show and all but I also fear that StrexCorp might re-educate him or Kevin will be the host for the next couple of broadcasts. And as much as I like Kevin the actor, NO. NO.

I have all this headcanon about what StrexCorp is and how they're related to the original Station Management that was comprised of what sounded like eldritch monsters. But I'm sure the show is going elsewhere and now I feel like I'm on the clock about writing that Night Vale Has Vanished Fic (it's got a title and half a chapter!) since the plot of that one depends on my headcanon.

Anyway, this podcast has gotten so wonderfully plotty. I love it even as I sort of miss how the show used to be more episodic with the biggest thread through being the Cecil/Carlos relationship. I really do hope that all this stuff with StrexCorp and Cecil's past that's he's forgotten about all do converge into some sort of logical story line. Or as logical as Night Vale can get.

Ahhhh writing for ongoing canon is extra stressful - this is already poking holes in my own, and more to come, I'm sure. On the other hand with a canon this wacky, alternative interpretations are only to be expected (which is to say aaaaah wanna read yours no matter what canon does!) And at least eps only come out twice a month...

On the other hand eps only come out twice a month, such a long time to wait! What is going to happen??? So curious if Kevin will be a host again (though not for a whole ep, no, need my Cecil!) Or they might have a fake Cecil, some way of imitating Cecil's voice that isn't really Cecil?

And the traffic report, was there any message in it other than the obvious viva la revolucion!

(My one big fear is that Carlos is really a StrexCorp man - I'm still suspicious that the lazy day didn't affect him, or, for that matter, that he wasn't trying to fix it...otoh I don't think Carlos has ever been mentioned in a Strex ep, so those might be unrelated plotlines? Considering how much of the show is made up on the fly, it's impossible to say...)

Me too. It falls more in line with where I think the Carlos character started when the podcast first began. Even Cecil was initially suspicious of why a scientist had come to Night Vale. But as the writers do make things up as they go, Carlos feels more an ally than the enemy at this point. Still, I do worry that somehow by trying to tie in stuff from earlier episodes, it'll turn out that Carlos is either working for StrexCorp knowingly or he's being funded by StrexCorp without realizing it.

Or they might have a fake Cecil, some way of imitating Cecil's voice that isn't really Cecil?

AUGH! That's even creepier! I thought re-education would be bad enough. I can just imagine Cecil Baldwin having a ball playing a character imitating his usual character.

which is to say aaaaah wanna read yours no matter what canon does!

My goal is that by the end of this week I will have something to post up. I sat during my commute and plotted chapters in my head so it's just a matter of actually writing it down. Characteristic of me, I think I gave the bulk of this story to expanding on the peripheral characters because I enjoy doing that. Although in this world of Night Vale, the only expanded character is really Cecil since no one else really gets to talk.

I keep telling myself that WtNV is a comedy so they're not going to do anything too terrible...but it's also completely bizarre, so who knows! Carlos being unknowingly funded by StrexCorp would be the maybe the kindest way to tie the storylines together. But maybe they won't bother to at all? Agh no way to know~~!

And yay to plotting and chapters! I'm here if you want a pre-read/beta/cheerleading! (and yeah, the NV chars are remarkably fun to expand on, even if I'm perpetually distracted by my OTP...!)

Like you I keep telling myself that Fink and Cranor are not sadistic. They wouldn't do something awful...right?

I may take you up on that! If all goes well this week, I'll hopefully have something. SOMETHING.

Having been relistening to eps, I think what might make me most nervous about Carlos's true purposes - other than Lazy Day - is that he claims the blinking light on the mountain is just a mirage, but that blinking light has been mentioned a lot - Dana can see it? And also, yeah, a mountain...maybe it's just a mirage scientifically speaking, but it makes me wonder if Carlos is deliberately hiding things. And I've always been a little worried that he's returning Cecil's affections more for research than genuinely...

(...it only just occurred to me that technically the reverse is just as possible - if Cecil thought having a mad crush on the suspicious scientist was the best way to get close to him and figure out his real intent? You never do know how genuine Cecil ever actually is...)

I thought Carlos' casual attitude about taking care of the evil shadow things during "First Date" was highly suspicious. He really figured out a way to get rid of them in less than a day?

And I've always been a little worried that he's returning Cecil's affections more for research than genuinely...

*sobs*

Maybe it's Cecil Baldwin's overly earnest voice when it comes to relaying Cecil Palmer's raging crush on Carlos but I find this scenario harder to believe. Cecil is unexpectedly devious at times but the one area I always found him genuine was when it came to his feelings about Carlos. Mainly because they were so openly obsessive and creeper-ish. But if Fink and Cantor are feeling particularly cruel, they could go this route.

What's been happening with Old Woman Josie? We haven't heard about her in awhile. Is she still around or has she sort of vanished following the angels? I want to know more about her old bowling team with Cecil.
