Meme (Shippy Kind, Part Deux)
Continuation of THIS meme with additional questions taken off Tumblr:

How often do they fight?
What do they do when they’re away from each other?
Nicknames for each other?
Who is more likely to pay for dinner?
Who steals the covers at night?
What would they get each other for gifts?
Who swears more?
What would they do if the other one was hurt?
Who started the relationship?
Toughest decision they've made?

Couple Still Playing:
Connie Murphy & Greg Lestrade

How often do they fight?
Initially they didn't fight very much but this was an issue. Lestrade avoided fighting due to his last serious relationship and Murphy constantly expected fights due to her last serious relationship. But they eventually had a conversation about it and met somewhere in the middle. They'll fight to not bottle things up (Lestrade) but they'll make up and things will be okay (Murphy).

What do they do when they’re away from each other?
Murphy and Lestrade had a long distance relationship for awhile. During this period they did a lot of Skyping, texting, and actually began to use their vacation days to visit one another. Because of Anna's school schedule, Lestrade tended to visit Chicago a bit more. This led to Sherlock complaining constantly about Lestrade being unavailable and that it wasn't good for the state of crime rates in London but more importantly, Sherlock's boredom rates. John talked to him about it and it's better now.

Nicknames for each other?
No nicknames, really. Murphy and Lestrade aren't fans of them.

Who is more likely to pay for dinner?
Unless one is taking the other out for something specific (birthday, promotion), they'll split it.

Who steals the covers at night?
That would be Lestrade. It's led to them getting a lot more covers.

Who swears more?
That would be Murphy. And she's sometimes very creative which Lestrade finds scandalous but also really impressive.

What would they do if the other one was hurt?
Murphy would first make sure that Lestrade would be fine and then find whoever did it and put them away. Lestrade would do the same and also stay with Anna until things were okay. And then he'd go find the person.

Who started the relationship?
Technically Lestrade started the relationship as he made the first move.

Toughest decision they've made?
Basically who would end up having to relocate. It didn't help that everyone in their lives got in on the conversation. Sherlock made an argument for Lestrade staying in London which boiled down to "I don't want to have to break in a new DI." Harry made an argument for Murphy staying in Chicago which boiled down to "I can't use technology and I'll never see you." Lestrade and Murphy talked about it, fought about it, and talked about it a lot more. Eventually, Murphy decided to move to London. Lestrade made it clear it had nothing to do with Sherlock's argument.

Hmm, I may have to revisit this myself. When did I get shippy? I blame the Hiatus. I always blame the Hiatus.

There is so much good and sweet stuff here that I don't know where to start! Even the first question is sweet/sad with Lestrade's reluctance to fight. Also sweet/sad is Harry and his technology woes. Maybe he can get an old rotary phone, I hear things only got bad for wizards post-.WWII, technology wise. Also lol and aww at Sherlock's complaints, which are sweet/annoying.

I'm curious, they don't have nicknames, but do they use each other's first names? Because they are two people who are generally only known by their last names.

It's funny because I blame you. I BLAME YOU FOR MY NEW FOUND SHIPPY-NESS.

They did start using each others first names kind of early on, even before they started officially dating. It took a little while before they actually began to refer to the other by first names in front of other people. In my head canon, the first time Lestrade referred to Murphy as Connie, John figured out they were dating. Meanwhile, much like Sherlock, Harry was all, "Who the hell is Greg?"

I feel like Sherlock in our friendship. I come up with insane ideas and you fail to prevent me from doing them, and I'm a terrible influence on you and drag you along. We need some sort of Mrs Hudson or Lestrade to scold us.

Awwww and hee! And I'm assuming Sherlock still wonders who both Connie and Murphy are.

And sometimes I egg you on which only adds to the insanity. Yeah, we need a Mrs. Hudson or Lestrade.

And I'm assuming Sherlock still wonders who both Connie and Murphy are.

He eventually had to learn. Particularly after John explained the significance of Lestrade using first names.

Sherlock: That doesn't make sense. By that criteria you and I are dating. You and Mycroft are dating.

John: I can't believe I'm about to explain deduction to Sherlock Holmes.

I'm rather interested in doing a oneshot with Anna and Sherlock and John. Unlike most kids, Anna would be so unimpressed with Sherlock.

Hahaha! *pinches Sherlock's cheeks*

"Your skull doesn't even have a ghost in it!"

I started something with Sherlock hiding with Harry post-Reichenbach and interacting with the mini-Dresdens, but it was very hard to justify, so it never got very far. I just think Fay would be so enamoured and Sherlock would be so confused.

Hahaha! *pinches Sherlock's cheeks*

He is sometimes adorably the smartest dumb person ever.

Sherlock would be proudly telling Anna how he deduced her love of art by how she ties her shoelaces or something and it would all make sense. Hence Anna would be all, "Oh. Yeah, I can see that now" and move on. Meanwhile, Harry just has magic which is just...magic! And so cool!

I just think Fay would be so enamoured and Sherlock would be so confused.

I can totally see Fay being enamoured with Sherlock in the way Harry's mother must have been with Harry's father. Fay might get magic but seeing someone non-magical do seemingly magical things is extra special.

I really love Jabez Wilson in The Red-Headed League when he's like 'oh, it's totally not impressive once you think about it' and Holmes is all >-/

Yes, exactly, it's magic without magic. Also, Sherlock helps people like Daddy and plays violin like Mommy did. One of my ideas had him finding Mira's violin and playing it without permission and Harry freaking out, but relenting because Mal and Fay were so delighted.

I might have teared up a little. This is so happy/sad. You're getting good with the angst.

Hee! The story I wrote about Mira dying is the angstiest thing I have ever written and it took me, like, five years to work up the courage to post it. Mostly because my verse is quite happy and I didn't want to taint the rest of it. The same reasons I held off writing Mira for so long. I was afraid no one would like her and the verse would be ruined.

I think I prefer bittersweet over angst. I can't seem to leave a story on hopeless note.

Actually, I can thank/blame you for the slightly more happy ending of Human Nature. The original idea for what Adam is doing as an adult was significantly more sinister. But after awhile it morphed into what it ended up being which is him remaining identified with Mr. Young strongly enough that the influence of his biological father remains subdued.

Unfortunately, this has also led to a bunch of headcanon stories about the adventures of Adam Young As a Responsible Adult.
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on September 21st, 2013 09:08 pm (UTC)
I am very pleased by this choice, as I really thought it was a wonderful ending to the story. It made me forgive Adam for all the trouble he'd caused and made me want him to be happy in his life.

I would read those stories.
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on September 21st, 2013 09:09 pm (UTC)
...It may end up being that I do that OTP challenge you did for Molly and Alec with Adam and Sophie.

I also just want to write the Them as adults. Their adult selves came so much easier to me than their child selves. Except Brian. Sorry, Brian.
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on September 21st, 2013 09:12 pm (UTC)
I support this idea in the strongest terms!

I may or may not being doing John and Sarah now.

I liked that the Them had managed to keep in touch even when they were adults, and didn't grow apart. I don't know if that was Adam's influence or not, but it made me happy.

Hooray! I love your Sarah. I happily keep up this AU that John has married her and they have Abby and everything is lovely.

I'd like to think a bit of both. Or rather the remnants of Adam's influence on them as children. They all have so many fond memories of being a group because of Adam that it's inspired them to keep in touch.

Everyone in Brian and Adam's group of other friends get very excited that they're childhood friends of Jeremy Barnes, the actor. Brian and Adam still call him Wensleydale.
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on September 21st, 2013 10:52 pm (UTC)
I'm thinking my AU might be very useful for catharsis if Mary turns out to be a disaster. I'll just write my little verse and pretend everything is fine.

^_^ look at you, thinking of fluffy things.

I remember that Pepper is Pippin Galadriel, but the reason for Wensleydale's name escapes me. It's been awhile since I read it.

It'll be my comfort blanket if that happens.

I remember that Pepper is Pippin Galadriel, but the reason for Wensleydale's name escapes me. It's been awhile since I read it.

There's a brief section where the book mentions Wensley's name might have originally been Jeremy but no one really called him that, including his parents.

^_^ look at you, thinking of fluffy things.

Yes, I find myself getting a little addicted to the idea of fluffy things.

This is good.

I'm just doing this meme myself and I realized you skipped the 'gift' question when you were answer. JSYK.

I realized you skipped the 'gift' question when you were answer.

I must have missed that one during my cutting and pasting of the prompts. Hm. I'll give this one a think.

Meanwhile, yeah, that OTP prompts thing happened. Schoolwork? What schoolwork?
