Doctor Who: Near Hits Edition
For those of you who haven't seen it, Buzzfeed gives us a list of 6 actors who were nearly Doctor Who.

I guess we now know who Neil Gaiman was talking about. I'm a bit disappointed we never got Ejiofor as Eleven.

Sounds like carefully placed damage control to me, after all of Stephen Moffat's asshattery. (And that description was carefully and effortfully chosen and is an extremely watered-down version of how I'd prefer to describe it. I just don't want to use that kind of language on someone else's blog.)

If they wanted to cast a POC they could have. If they'd wanted to cast a woman they could have (and LOL yeah sure.) But they didn't, because they didn't want to.

Doctor Who is over for me, I'm done.

I'm personally glad that they didn't cast a woman during Moffat's reign as I shudder to think how else he could ruin the show.

With the exception of Kinky Boots, I've only ever seen Ejiofor play really serious, intense parts, or be the straight man. I don't know if I can see him being quite eccentric enough for The Doctor. I think he's a great actor, and I love his voice, but I don't know if I can see him as the Doctor.

It's interesting that Matt Smith "only" got the part because Ejiofor turned it down. Moffat would have us believe he was the only possible choice and he walked in and they knew. I wonder who's exaggerating?

I'm wondering if maybe they did the casting in waves. Like wave 1 they had Ejiofor and offered it to him. When he turned it down, they did another wave of auditions and found Smith.

Or Moffat could just be lying. Funny how I'd believe Buzzfeed over Moffat.

IIRC, Smith originally auditioned for Watson in Sherlock and they decided he'd make a better Doctor, so perhaps you're right.

But yeah, unfortunately, I have very little faith in Moffat about anything.

Didn't Moffat tell us they only ever considered Peter Capaldi for the Twelfth Doctor?

I'm more inclined to believe the one about Chitewel Ejiofor since it goes along with what Neil Gaiman said, plus he was very much rumored at the time.

He did but I'm skeptical that this was the case. He'd also said that Matt Smith was the only choice.
