Meme (Character Time!)
Taken from the lovely awanderingbard:

Give me the name of a character that I write or have written, and I'll give you 3-5 things I associate with that character—items they might own, clothes they might wear, decor in their living spaces, colours or music that suits them, images that remind me of them, facts from my head canon, etc.

And same as what awanderingbard said, queries of OCs and AU versions are welcomed!

I'm going to be obvious back: Q! :D

I'm going to do the AU version who is the 3rd Holmes brother:

- unlike Sherlock and Mycroft he doesn't have a single packrattish bone in his body. Consequently his flat is very functional but largely unadorned.

- is partial to the music of Gary Numan when programming.

- his parents in a sudden fit of familial nostalgia gave him an antiquated French name.

That's totally cool and what I was thinking of anyway.

I have not heard of Gary Numan but I can see why Q would approve. He seems like someone my brother would like (he only listens to trans music).

Aww, pauvre Q! I can see him getting annoyed at not only have a weird name, but the weirdest name of the three. Does that mean you've chosen one?

I did finally settle on a name for Q. Thanks for the links! They were super helpful.

The one I finally picked feels strange enough to be a Holmes name but not so bizarre that it borders on parody. Or at least I hope not. Q was probably pretty happy the day he became a letter at work and a fake name for out of work for security reasons. His brothers would be the only ones to call him by his actual name to his mild chagrin.

Oh, yay! I'm always glad when my obsessions are useful to people.

Honestly, that's the way I've always felt about 'Sherrinford' for Q. I understand that it's a nod to Conan Doyle's original musings, but it just seems too Holmesian. Especially for Q. I have the weird synesthesia with names, and he's not a Sherrinford at all.

John Watson!
formerly lifeinsomniac: WatsonCocktailjoonscribble on July 19th, 2013 05:36 pm (UTC)
- beyond tea and baked beans hates all traditional British cuisine.

- had as a child and still periodically has as an adult a reoccurring dream of lying on the back of an elephant as it lumbers through a forest.

- has a harder time sleeping unless the bed has overly starched sheets with edges firmly tucked in.

- this one is from my head canon that egotistically includes a fic I wrote but John after the As the Sea Knows the Shore case kept all of Spencer's datebooks.

Ha! I don't need starched sheets, but they'd better be tucked in if I'm going to sleep! I can totally see that for John too!

I've always liked the feel of starched sheets, although I don't starch mine at home. It's a combo of childhood memories and the army for John.

You've written human!Bob, right? Forgive me, I am getting so many stories crossed in my head suddenly! Alternatively, ghost!Bob will work quite nicely. :)

Sorry this took me forever as I was away from the Internet for a bit!

human!Bob

- since becoming human his favorite food is those 99 cent instant ramens. He's told Harry it's linguini vongole for appearances sake but he's lying.

- has become friendlier with Mister. Now that he can actually pick him up to remove him or to set him on his lap, he sees the benefits of having a cat around.

- took his skull back to England for burial.

- turned out to be a very good driver

- now suffers from insomnia due to a lingering fear that his humanness is all a dream.

I laughed so hard at the ramen noodles. Oh geez, I can picture that with crystal clear clarity. It'd be great because you just know Harry would eventually catch on and start "stumbling onto sales" for Ramen noodles all the time, leading to a huge stash of Ramen noodles suddenly appearing in Bob's lab, with the excuse, "Well, where else am I supposed to put them, Bob?" and lots of mutual teasing, drenched in affection.

Oh!! And perhaps Bob will finally develop that cat hair-removing spell you and I used to joke about! He just stands in place, concentrates very hard, bends his knees and claps his hands together, and the hair all flies violently off in a single gust of energy, sticking to everything else in a way they find later is unfortunately permanent. No hair roller can remove the hair from the couch! It's been fused there! Harry sighs and submits to covering the couch with a blanket while Bob stumbles around in embarrassment and mumbles about revising the contents of the spell.

The insomnia and the taking his skull back to England are both bittersweet and lovely. Both of those are great story opportunities. And hee! We've joked about Bob's driving skills before. I like your interpretation of that, as well. :)
