Hannibal: Roti
Despite some of the gross things we've seen on this show, the Columbian Necktie thing took the cake for me.

This episode, appropriately named Roti (roast) features Will's brain basically melting under the weight of fevers and medical malpractice.

Hannibal outdoes himself in the Bastard of All Bastards category by more or less sending Will into seizures with his manipulation. Again I wanted to give Will a blanket and maybe several Tylenols as he sobbed out, "Please don't lie to me!" when Hannibal insisted he didn't see anyone at the dinner table after Will brought in Gideon. Once again, Will goes to the one person he feels he can trust the most only to get mindfucked so much it actually hurts to watch. However, I did laugh rather hard at Hannibal's expression when he opened the door to Will holding a gun to Gideon. Bet even he didn't predict that, eh? That and also Gideon's general, "What the fuck are you his doctor??" during that whole sequence was somewhat hilarious. Hilarious in that "I Must Laugh to Not Cry" sort of way.

I also surprisingly found myself liking Freddie Lounds in this episode. Actually, I've greatly enjoyed the creation of this Freddie Lounds in general. Make no mistake she's an awful person but she's not completely amoral. She could have just taken off after Gideon left her with Chilton but she stayed on to keep him alive. That doesn't count for nothing and it what ultimately separates her from someone like Hannibal who wouldn't even think twice to do what best benefits him. Also: nerves of steel this woman. She barely flinched despite some of the awful things she got to witness. Speaking of which...

So despite getting things like Mushroom People, Meat Angels, and Corpse Towers, I about lost my lunch when I saw the Columbian Necktie. When it started wiggling, I felt my stomach lurch. I'm not sure why this disturbed me so much but it looks like this show actually found my limit. Well done, Hannibal. You made me, a seasoned horror film watcher, actually feel nauseous. After seeing that, watching Chilton lose his organs almost felt like a nice return to normal on this show. I was vaguely surprised to find out he might survive the ordeal but I guess the show intends on giving Chilton his original fate. Man, it almost seems like it would have been better had he just died by Gideon's hands.

My biggest surprise of all is that I didn't feel the most amount of hate toward Hannibal in this episode, although he was a close second. The honor belonged to Crawford. Look, I largely accept that Hannibal has to be a horrible person because that's the character. The show makes no apologies for it because he's a cannibalistic sociopath. Do you expect honorable actions? But Crawford is the worst boss in existence. The fact that he does seem to genuinely feel concern for Will makes it even worse that he's willing to put the man out there again and again. At least Hannibal has the excuse of completely not caring. I get that Crawford has a job to do and he can justify destroying one man to save several. But stop pretending Will is going to bounce back just fine. Crawford's last conversation with Hannibal where he spun Will's fever-induced shooting of Gideon as a good thing and even refused to take away Will's right to carry a firearm (didn't he HIRE Hannibal to make these judgement calls? He's ignoring them now??) made me want to cap him in the knees. You are not bedrock, sir. Unless you mean you are a bedrock of ASS.

I loved this episode, I am loving all the episodes, I am totally lost to this show. I really cant get enough of the worst person ever in the history of ever. My goodness gracious. Well he just had a MILD seizure, then all is well! :S I loved Gideon in this, his face all the time was priceless. I really loved his expressions in Hannibals dining room that people even they dont know that they are in a show called Hannibal should be scared of! Really the decor! :S I love his office but I honestly cannot explain how Jack, head of the behavioral unit of the FBI, isnt O___O at the dining room! :S

She could have just taken off after Gideon left her with Chilton but she stayed on to keep him alive.
I am still thorn about what her reasoning was. I am not so sure it was for keeping Chilton alive and not because she is a lemming she was hoping to see who the Ripper is?
I am not saying that it could not be that she has still a shred of humanity, because nobody not her combined with all the other serial killers of the show so far can take away Hannibals award of the worst ever away.

And that brings me also to my rage against Jack, I really had to O_o at him with him saying that Will even if burning up could bring down Gideon!!! :S Its really bad if he thinks that a person who shot another person thinking he was the reanimated corpse of a previously shot serial killer is a good thing! :S

I have no illusions about the fact that Hannibal is evil. And still why am I dreading the moment Will finds out and finally sends him to prison? :S This show has screwed with my frame of mind.

I cant wait until next Thursday, how will I survive until next season?

I might be just naive but I like to think that Freddie Lounds is amoral enough to ruin people's lives through her articles but not to actually stand by and let someone die. If someone died due to her stories, I doubt she'd bat an eye. But actually standing there or leaving someone to croak might be beyond her Awful Threshold. In the 2nd episode she did take it upon herself to tell Crawford about Will Graham being in danger.

As she put it, they're all psychopaths to some degree. Only Hannibal's degree is off the charts psychopath. He doesn't even HAVE a threshold for what's too awful.

I have no illusions about the fact that Hannibal is evil. And still why am I dreading the moment Will finds out and finally sends him to prison?

I'm not subscribing to the idea that Hannibal SHOULD remain free and at large. But there is something sad about having someone so on top of his game finally fall. Granted, he totally deserves it but I still wince when someone's arrogance gets the better of them. Case in point: CHILTON. I hate the man to every possible degree but I did wince HARD when he started losing his organs.

Its like this: http://ixilecter.tumblr.com/post/52128766016/hannibal-lecter-wine-can-a-person-envy-the#permalink-notes

Where she says he enjoy the wine while he can, since he wont get any in prison.

I have been thinking of everybody wishing that Hannibal steps on a lego, but I think prison food and not having three-piece-suits will be worse than stepping on a lego, which neither means its what he deserves being the absolute worst. But I have hope that we still get some episodes next season of him being able to be his absolutely worst and then we can see Will loose all faith in everyone when he finds out about him.

I am trying to spoil myself with promo-photos of the next two episodes and I am starting to think Will finds out this season.

And now I am really thinking Bedelia is in Hannibals mind. :S

Me too. I don't know if he'll go so far as to figure out he's been feeding everyone people but I think he does figure out that Hannibal is not his friend, gauge, paddle, etc.

And now I am really thinking Bedelia is in Hannibals mind. :S

This does explain a few things but it also makes me rather sad. That basically means Hannibal knows he's only playing at being human and has some negative feelings about what that means.

I guess this is the piece that makes Hannibal seem somewhat more relatable (as much as one can with a sociopathic cannibal). He does feel loneliness even as he largely dismisses the rest of the human population. It's like how he says he has no interest in understanding sheep and only wants to eat them. However, if he lives in a world of sheep, he must sometimes feel lonely and wish either 1) he COULD relate to sheep or 2) wishes he could find someone who isn't sheep so they could be friends. I guess the latter option is with Will Graham. Only Hannibal still treats Will like sheep to some extent because he's so used to ONLY dealing with sheep.

Why has this show made me into someone who wants Will to live a lie some time more! :S

I have absolutely no knowledge of psychiatry or psychology, all my knowledge comes from TV and Google, but I really would like to know if this fictional character can even put into a category. I still cant reunite his desire of friendship, with treating Will as he does. And I really think he knows he is just playing being human and feels bad about it and even trolls himself in his mind about it.

Totally off topic, but back to 'what is show doing to me', why am I sad Gideon got shot by Will and not killed gruesomely by Hannibal? :S

I think the books allude to this. Hannibal doesn't actually fit into the category of being a psychopath neatly. His lifestyle and his abilities to blend in are so well constructed it flies against the general convention of what a psychopath looks like.

HOWEVER. I once had a class where my professor explained that there could very well be a psychopath of this kind out there but we will never get a chance to study them and form a category for them because they are so good at alluding the police. Scary.

The producer for "Hannibal" has suggested that Gideon might not be dead. In which case we might be able to forward to him getting killed in an awful way by Hannibal.

I just hope he decorates his home like Hannibal so I can recognize him and try to run for my life! :S

Oh! OK, I know I am going to hell for this but I do want him get killed by Hannibal! :S

I kind of want Hannibal to kill everyone who deserves to be killed. If we must have a winner in this Awful Person Battle Royale, let it be Hannibal.

If this show goes all the way to Red Dragon, I'm terrified about Will's ultimate fate which sounds so much worse than simple death.
quickyfant: Hannibalquickyfant on June 10th, 2013 03:38 am (UTC)
I am so hopeful that this fandom can threaten convince the people of TV to make Red Dragon happen with this show! I just want to see that happen with Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy! I know its terrible to wish more suffering upon Will, but I want! :S
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on June 10th, 2013 03:53 am (UTC)
I don't know if I want Will to suffer. Can he just blissfully be friends with Hannibal for another season before all hell breaks loose? I greatly enjoyed the earlier episodes where he was going to Hannibal for some light therapy rather than because he was starting to lose his entire mind.

It was nice, but I dont know how they could go back to that! :S Someone in the hospital now will see that he has encephalitis! How is Lecter going to explain that? I would love it also that we could go back to creepy dog-sitting and Will bursting into Hannibals home interrupting serial-killers-dinner because Alana kissed him, but I just see more and more suffering for him in the future! :S
