That Moment...
...when you start brainstorming on a multi-chapter crossover fic and then you remind yourself that you have two other unfinished fics, one of them being a crossover fic and you quietly cage up the plot bunnies.

Yeah, that moment.

You should NEVER cage your plot bunnies! They are too awesome! :) What would this one be about? :D

Aw, thank you! :)

But in this case I couldn't deal with yet another unfinished fic.

The story was a crossover for Good Omens and Supernatural, dealing with the aftermath of the latter's season finale.

UGH, THAT MOMENT. Though a Good Omens/Supernatural crossover would be fun. I wonder what would have happened to Aziraphale in such a situation, hmm??

I wonder what would have happened to Aziraphale in such a situation, hmm??

See, it started out as an innocent oneshot with Aziraphale having to deal with what's been happening and eventually Castiel turning up at his store.

But then I got this bizarre idea for why it was Aziraphale would remain an angel with all his grace and power on Earth, so the plot got longer. And THEN I had an idea for what all these fallen angels would try to do now that they were exiled from heaven and it ended up involving Crowley (GO Crowley) and then the plot got SUPER long.

I JUST WANTED TO WRITE A SHORT THING ABOUT AZIRAPHALE'S THOUGHTS NOW THAT IT WAS RAINING ANGELS!!

HOW CAN YOU DANGLE THIS CARROT IN FRONT OF ME!? I am seething now. SEETHING. That story idea sounds amazing. And you know me, I'm pretty much always on board for your perfect Good Omens characterizations.

I propose you try to write it as a one-shot, and be prepared to fight off the chapter-increasing-beasts. What is this reason of yours that Aziraphale would remain an angel? Does it have to do with the fact that he was already on Earth?

It does partially have to do with him already being on earth. Aziraphale can't get back to heaven but he's not completely cut off from its powers either. However I also had a plot idea of Metatron specifically sparing Aziraphale and allowing him to still have his powers for a couple of reasons.

I propose you try to write it as a one-shot, and be prepared to fight off the chapter-increasing-beasts.

Lack of time overall may help me fight off the chapter-increasing beasts. I'll try and see if the bulk of this story can fit into something oneshot-ish.

I do feel like it would make sense for the angels who were already walking around in their vessels on Earth to be rather unaffected by The Great Fall. I think their problem would come later, as their Grace is drained through usage and can't be replenished by Heaven.

However I also had a plot idea of Metatron specifically sparing Aziraphale and allowing him to still have his powers for a couple of reasons.

Ohhhh!!! Well, they are both book-readers. Kindred souls of a sort? Though I think Aziraphale would be almost offended by the comparison. "I'm nothing like you!" he would shriek at Metatron, "You should have done to me what you did to the others! I'll never join you!" and Crowley, meanwhile, is laughing nervously and tugging on Aziraphale's arm, hissing, "Shut up, angel...!"

Lack of time overall may help me fight off the chapter-increasing beasts. I'll try and see if the bulk of this story can fit into something oneshot-ish.

YAY!!! *camps out beside your blog, cooking marshmallows as I wait*

Part of it would be that Metatron feels a bit of a kinship toward Aziraphale. But he also has a practical reason and it involves GO Crowley. See, this is where the plot gets long because I ended up thinking about how all the fallen angels would try to regain entrance into Heaven. And the ideas got biggish. Plus then I would have to write Dean and Sam as well and I am not there with their voice.

Yep.

I would offer to house your plot bunnies until you need them, but I'm afraid they were breed with mine. And I don't need any more plot bunnies. Just completed fic bunnies.

But all writing from you is welcome! I enjoy Scribbler fic.

Thank you :)

Lately I've been coming up with random fic ideas when commuting. I get super-excited and tell myself the second I get home I'll start working on it. But then when I get home I'm so exhausted I can barely think straight and when I start thinking about how much plotting there is, my brain starts to weep a little.

And thus things rarely get written. Dammit!

I have no excuses, I'm just not good with long fics. My Sherlock one is finished solely because I sat there and wrote enough crap that eventually I came out on the other side with the rest of the plot. I don't usually have the patience for that. I so admire people who plot out long fics and then write them. I think my 'let's see what happens if I do this' approach isn't compatible with longer stories.

Although I've felt compelled to write Merlin fic and I actually have, like, a whole plot and stuff. It's a bit scary.

Speaking of scary, I have successfully gotten through an episode of Hannibal. I feel accomplished. It'll probably be cancelled now.
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on May 23rd, 2013 04:32 am (UTC)
I actually usually don't mind plotting. The writing bit tends to drag out for me though. I've had "Human Nature" plotted out since forever but the writing...the writing.

Have you written Merlin fix before? If not, HUZZAH for more fandoms getting your fics!!

Which episode of Hannibal was it?
The Writer They Call Tayawanderingbard on May 23rd, 2013 04:49 am (UTC)
Yeah, plot to words is tricky for me, as well. I always find there's a chapter where you have to stop, close off what's happened and start the next bit, and invariably get stuck there. It's always chapter ten, too. All my chapter tens are exposition hopefully not boringly presented.

I've written a Leon and Gaius centric oneshot for a prompt, because I had never thought much about how Leon and Gaius interact, and it intrigued me. Other than that, I wrote a very short drabble for a prompt, and that's it. I have the same trouble I used to have with Sherlock fic, which is that I lack a good narration voice. I struggled with John for a long time, and I'm not terribly comfortable with Merlin. I know what he might say, but not his interior monologue. Turns out it's a bit morose at the moment, though he is post-finale. I'm hoping he'll cheer up at some point.

I watched Fromage, the last episode. Throat cello. It seemed the least gruesome from Cleo's recaps and the choices I had on the City TV website. I watched it in the small viewer, and I couldn't get myself to make it full screen. I felt like I had to keep it small in case I needed to flee. I didn't though!
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on May 23rd, 2013 03:24 pm (UTC)
Ah, Fromage. Oddly yes, the least of the gruesome despite the Throat Cello. It also featured the Serial Killer Battle Royale which has been my favorite bit of the series so far.
The Writer They Call Tay: Merlin: Thumbs up!awanderingbard on May 23rd, 2013 04:33 pm (UTC)
That was a pretty awesome fight, I have to admit. Mikkelsen is apparently a trained dancer--like a professional one--so I imagine that helps him kick the crap out of people gracefully.

I'm sort of working my way up on the scale of gruesomeness. I started with the Oeuf (I will not call it Ceuf, ceuf is not a word) webisodes, which were hardly gory, and then I went to Fromage, which was a bit gory. I don't know where to go next. I've only got Entree and Sorbet to legally choose from. It's not so much gore as disturbing content for me, so Sorbet might be the better choice.
