Elementary's Irene Adler
Elementary has cast its Adler.

I'm fine with the casting. I'm just very disappointed that a show which gave us such different and successful takes on Watson and Mrs. Hudson is going to go the Irene Adler Is a Love Interest For Holmes route.

How about Adler and Moriarty are the same person? It's crazy but at this point I'd be willing to take that over the love interest plot.

I wouldn't put it past the show to do something very different with Adler, but I won't be surprised if they do exactly what they appear to be doing either. I just hope if she is a love interest they make her at least capable and not a generic femme fatale. Which I don't have much hope for, considering who they've cast. I'm not terribly fond of Dormer as an actress. She only seems to have one facial expression.

I'm okay with Dormer but she'll definitely need good material. I don't know if she's good enough to make something out of nothing.

I'm 50/50 on my hopes for a very different Adler. The Mrs. Hudson redux was unexpectedly original but it worked. The Moran redux was a little closer to the classic version. I actually would have been pleased if he HAD turned out to be Moriarty as it would have been a completely different take on the character being much more physical and thuggish than cerebral and academic.

I've only ever seen Dormer play femme fatales/smirky sassy paints, so it makes me nervous about what they're doing with Irene. I don't want her to be either of those things.

It actually took me seeing a gifset on tumblr before I picked up on Ms. Hudson being who she is, which I'm very ashamed of. But I really like the direction they've gone, mixing things up even more.

I don't know what I want from Adler, really, I don't want a villainess and I don't want a generic love interest. Just someone worthy of Holmes to be as intrigued as he is, without being a bitch. Someone worthy of being The Woman, I suppose.

Having just watched (and greatly enjoyed!) Elementary...siiiigh to that article. Especially the "Irene Adler is perhaps the most pivotal relationship in Sherlock's life" - blergh and NO. Watson is most important or you're doing it wrong! :P (and they've been doing it so right so far, will be so disappointed if they screw it up now...!)

Adler as Moriarty, though - ooooooh! We've been debating whether Adler and Moriarty faked her death together, Moriarty faked her death to kidnap her, or Adler took advantage of the M thing and faked her own death and Moriarty was actually uninvolved - but Adler as Moriarty did not occur to us! Rats, now I'm gonna be disappointed if it doesn't work out that way! XP

I know! I get how unique Irene Adler is but the whole thing smacks of people desperately wanting Holmes to fall in love like a normal person which is so not right.

My original idea/wish was that Adler originally got close to Sherlock because she wanted Moriarty dead and made it seem like she faked her own death at his hands to push Sherlock to take Moriarty down. So the entire relationship with Sherlock from her point of view was a complete fabrication for a specific end result.

I wasn't completely in love with the idea of making Irene Adler a villain but at this point I'd much prefer that than have her be a flat love interest.

ATTEMPT #2 TO COMMENT because LJ wouldn't let me this morning. It took my comment and made it go "poof."

I don't want to see this Irene Adler. I don't want a Holmes motivated by a desire for revenge for his dead lover. I don't really want to see any man motivated by revenge for His Woman. I've had enough of that. I was really hoping we'd had about all we were going to have of Adler.

Why can't anyone do Adler right since Grenada?

I would enjoy a portrayal of Adler if only they didn't all insist on making her a love interest for Holmes. I agree that Granada stuck to the source material closely and has been the only one to do it well.
