Good Grief
For anyone who has been watching the show Teen Wolf, you must check out this Funny or Die video.

The Peanuts gang parody is funny all by itself but there's special hilarity that can be gleaned when you think about the cast as their Teen Wolf alter egos. I think my favorite part is the shot of Tyler Hoechlin as Schroeder playing piano with the revamp techno version of the Peanuts song while everyone else dances.

Are you a Teen Wolf viewer now? I don't know what to do about that show! On the one hand, its sudden popularity makes me REALLY want to see it, and on the other, I scarcely ever care for werewolf plots. but it's starting to take over every corner of my Internet life, so I think the dam is going to break very soon.

I will admit that I am now. I watched this show completely out of order which might have actually helped my interest because so many things didn't make sense so I had to keep watching previous (or future) episodes to just get what the hell was happening.

It's an unexpectedly entertaining show. It has almost none of the staples of the usual shows I enjoy. The angst level should be high given some of the plot points but it's oddly too dramatic, like JAZZ HANDS LEVEL OF DRAMA, for me to take any angsting seriously. I will say that some of the snark is pretty good. Not Bob level good but decent. Particularly one character whom I really hope becomes a regular.

Oh, now that's simply not fair! How can I be expected to resist a show advertised as having "JAZZ HANDS LEVEL OF DRAMA"? This is devious. I suspect you are trying to cause harm to my mental well-being. *SUSPICIOUS EYES*

In all seriousness, though, it's really startling that MTV has a show that is being lauded so highly by so many people. I think Pimp My Ride was my last guilty pleasure show from MTV before I gave up all hope of ever understanding popular culture. I wonder somewhat if the popularity of the Twilight franchise had something to do with why MTV was willing to take a chance on a show having supernatural elements. I'm not sure how terrified I should be of that thought, but if something good came of it, then, well, it's good to be here at the dawning of this new age! Haha.

Also, I love how Bob is the standard by which all other snarky characters must be judged. It's so true. Good 'ol Dresden Files. *G*

I think what adds to this idea of the drama being ridiculous is that the show (at least in the first season) focuses on what feels like the wrong things in terms of drama. With hilarious results. I mean, one of the main characters lost his entire family in a fire which was kind of his fault. But instead of having this be the main angsting focus, the show instead focuses on a high schooler having ballistic meltdowns about how the girl he loves MIGHT NOT LOVE HIM BACK. Oh noes!!

The 2nd season actually took some of the storylines to fairly surprising and interesting places. So I'm hoping they continue with that.

What also sort of sold me on this show is that like the show, Angel, Teen Wolf isn't afraid to make fun of itself. Like how they're totally fine about constantly showing us that the main character, Scott, is sort of dumb. Adorably so, perhaps. But seriously. Dumb.

I wonder somewhat if the popularity of the Twilight franchise had something to do with why MTV was willing to take a chance on a show having supernatural elements.

Oh, absolutely. And they're obviously using Twilight as a model since this show has more male shirtlessness than any show I've ever seen in my life.
