Trailer Alert: Anna Karenina (2012)
You can watch the trailer for the latest adaptation of Tolstoy's classic novel HERE.

I have such mixed feelings about this. Joe Wright always tends to disappoint in the last hour of his films. But some of the visuals in this looks pretty gorgeous. Bonus points for the wonderful trailer music by Two Steps From Hell.

I too have mixed feelings about this movie! :S :S :S

It looks pretty but...that might be ALL this movie is. Which considering the source material is pretty depressing.

It looks so very pretty and I have a soft spot for anything with Jude Law in it...but I am scared your icon will be so apt, like ten minutes into the movie... :S :S :S *hugs Anna Karenina copy and is torn between 'shiny' and 'ahh they did what, with this material?'*

Based on the trailer, I feel like Law might be the best actor in this thing. Which...again, is a taaaad worrisome. Just a tad.

:D :D :D My soft spot for Jude Law is because he is grouped into the 'shiny' part of wanting to watch something, because yes, its more than a tad worrisome if he is the best actor in all this! >:D ;) :D

I'm also slightly amused that he's reached the age where he's now playing Karenin. I mean, I remember when he was the hot young thing. Now he's the guy being left by his wife.

I am almost afraid to say I find them more attractive when older... there is nothing to analyze about this, nope nothing at all but yes it is very ironic, but their choice for Count Vronski...

Without question in this version, Karenin is significantly better looking than Vronsky who looks like he's about 16.

Sean Bean's Vronsky was a casting stroke of genius on a purely shallow level.

Yes Sean Bean's Vronski was good, for THE PLOT, I mean, just for that!!! >:D :D

Just occurred to me with Sean Bean talk and 'deep and insightful' reasons to watch something, are you or did you watch Game of Thrones?
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on June 26th, 2012 03:20 am (UTC)
Game of Thrones is on my list of things to watch over August when I'm doing NOTHING. It shall be awesome.

I have a long standing crush on Sean Bean so I'm looking forward to this.

Me too, its on my waiting list, but I am also insanely scared of it... :S :S :S

:)

It stars a few actors I enjoy so yes, I am excited but it looks like a commitment of a show.
quickyfant: selective realityquickyfant on June 26th, 2012 03:29 am (UTC)
Yes it is a little bit daunting, they are there, waiting, the episodes, and I am looking for a time machine or parallel universe that allows me to watch it! I look forward to hearing what you say about it, it may make me commit to it instead of say sleeping or eating! ;) :D

My only knowledge of Anna Karenina comes from the Sean Bean movie version I saw years ago, so I can't comment on casting or relation to the book, but this version looks gorgeous. At the very least it will make some pretty icons...
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on June 26th, 2012 02:53 am (UTC)
Yeah, because the last version I saw had Sean Bean as Vronsky, I'm a little taken aback by this version who seems so...not the way I ever pictured Vronsky.

But yes, the cinematography looks amazing.

Word! Sean Bean and Aaron Johnson are on the opposite ends of the spectrum. I did spend the entire trailer under the impression that Aaron was actually Jackson Rathbone, though, which would have been a much weirder choice.
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on June 26th, 2012 03:24 am (UTC)
Just google imaged Jackson Rathbone. Yeeaaah....

I feel ridiculously old looking at these actors. They look like teenagers to me.

Me too. Vronsky looks about sixteen in this. I don't know what Vronsky is supposed to look like, but I'm guessing not sixteen.
