White Collar: Checkmate
Welcome back, team!

I'm pleased that this show didn't make us wait too long and dove straight into Operation Find Elizabeth Burke. For once Neal doesn't plan strategies or dodges telling the truth and immediately does everything Peter asks him to do: show Peter the treasure, find Mozzie, etc. We'd been seeing glimpses of the "good" Neal Caffrey throughout the show but he finally shined through here as when it really, really counted, he stepped up to try and fix the Keller situation.

Loved the nice balance of SeriouslyConcerned!Peter and FBI!Peter. He had his moments when it was clear he was on the verge of panic now that El was missing but he was able to go keep it together and do what he had to do in order to get her back. I also loved that as furious as he was at Neal for hiding the treasure and unwittingly bringing Keller to everyone's doorsteps, he didn't cross a line and punch Neal out.

Also adored Jones and Diana being super competent and diligent. Their loyalty to Peter is awesomeness itself.

And speaking of awesomeness, my deepest thanks to the writers for not having El just sit in a room waiting. Woman actually managed to break out on her own before rescue arrived! No wonder Peter loves her. I freaking love her all the more after that display.

Again, as much as Keller is horrible, I do enjoy him as a villain. I was pleased they didn't kill him and he managed to weasel his way into favor with the Russian mob after being on their hit list. He's a survivor, you gotta give him that. I'm hoping he returns in some form or another later on the series.

And the same goes for Mozzie. It looks like the show's writing him out for now. He and Neal had a significantly nicer goodbye this go around. I was glad that he too didn't weigh any pros and cons of returning to NY when he found out about El and rolled up his sleeves to help. It definitely saved some of the character assassination he went through last season. I have a feeling he'll be back since I'm sure he'll get word that Neal didn't go to prison for theft. In fact, he might be officially off the anklet by the time Mozzie returns!

All in all, it's good to have you back, White Collar!

Peter is the best ever. Tim DeKay was awesome in this episode, and Peter was generous when he had reason to be furious and distrustful of Neal and Mozzie, and I LOVE PETER.

EL ROCKS TOO. She saved herself! She's as smart as the boys, even without FBI training or long-term con experience! Satch! The thermostat! The window!

LOVE!

I flailed all over the place when El started her escape plan. Both she and Peter are so wonderful you totally get why they love each other on that super-mega level. I think I love them on that super-mega level!

Ah! So those are the people in your hugging-and-staring-into-the-other's-face icon! For the longest time, I thought that woman was Torchwood's Gwen.

I am pleased to hear about a competent female character on TV. All the awards! Yes, all of them!

Indeed that's Elizabeth and Peter. Although now that you mention it, she does look a bit like Gwen because of the hair. Although Peter looks nothing like Jack or Rhys.

Seriously. Although, I would perhaps say that Elizabeth isn't exactly a three dimensional character. She doesn't really have any flaws which puts her teetering on the side of being a Mary Sue. But her relationship with Peter is lovely enough that I'm sort of willing to overlook it.

So far, I think the only competent yet wonderfully flawed female character I can think of off the top of my head is Connie Murphy from Dresden Files. She was a great cop but stubborn and headstrong at times that was more a hindrance than a help.

Haha, yes, hence my occasional confusion up until this moment. It's an adorable little moment there, though. *G*

She doesn't really have any flaws which puts her teetering on the side of being a Mary Sue.

Perhaps she has webbed toes. YOU NEVER KNOW.

I can think of Connie Murphy, absolutely, and also Toph from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Actually, I can think of a lot of competent females on Avatar: The Last Airbender, hence my affection for the show. But I digress!

Speaking of Murphy, I found a huge fanfic I wrote with her starring in it a couple days ago, while cleaning out my last computer's hard drive. Nothing ever quite inspired my writing like the Dresden Files. <3 that show.

And will you be sharing this huge fanfic soon? Yes? YES?! I still haven't forgotten about that Sherlock/Supernatural/possibly Dresden Files crossover story you started!

Haha! I'm glad you seem to be excited about the prospect of this Murphy fanfic. Very well, I shall see if I can find it again for you. I'm going through massive overhauls with my data, so it's in some folder...eh, somewhere. It's from years ago.

I still haven't forgotten about that Sherlock/Supernatural/possibly Dresden Files crossover story you started!

I haven't forgotten that, either! I really want to write that! And I'll have time now! YAY! Consider that my temporarily-out-of-work project. Just keep pestering me about that, seriously. It's the best way to get me typing. XD

Just keep pestering me about that, seriously.

*pester pester pester PESTER PESTER!!!*

I'll be back with more. :)

But seriously. Crossovers are hard to pull off and yours was off to such a rollicking start. I'd hate to see it not keep going.

YAY!!! I shall send a mental wave of pester towards your Sherlock/GO crossover, in the meanwhile. *PESTER-TSUNAMI*

Do you think I should accommodate for Castiel's current, eh, "status" in the fic? Or just go with the end of season six?
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on January 19th, 2012 06:31 am (UTC)
I'd stick with the end of season six to keep things less complicated. Besides, Castiel is too MIA at the moment.

Yes, who needs CANON, anyway?? I think I can slip Sherlock canon in fairly nicely, though. I am pleased about this!

I can't wait to get Morgan into this story. *bounces everywhere*
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on January 19th, 2012 06:39 am (UTC)
Oooh! Morgan! I'd love to see Morgan meet the law enforcement of Sherlock. He and Lestrade might have an interesting conversation about wayward consultants.

Morgan is awesome in everything. I found another fic I started writing involving him, disgruntled, in a golf shirt. OH, WHEN DID MY COOLNESS START TO PLUMMET SO!?

*despairs over my past accomplishments*

XD
formerly lifeinsomniacjoonscribble on January 19th, 2012 06:53 am (UTC)
You have Morgan-fic? More to be shared!!
Astoundingly fond of avocados and rainy weather.: TemptingFateguardian_chaos on January 19th, 2012 06:58 am (UTC)
I have Dresden fic everywhere! And the Morgan fic, I actually can find with a fair amount of ease, I think. It involves a drunk Harry and a Bob on the verge of panic. Plus an unforeseen situation that is causing a lot of problems for all of them.

Perhaps I'll work on it some tonight. It's been half-written for a long time.
