Light at the end of the tunnel! (Let's hope it's not a train coming at me)
The fall semester of my 2nd year of doctorate program is almost at the end. I've still got a slew of papers to do but the workload got much more manageable thanks to my professors seeing my entire cohort was about to have a nervous breakdown.

I feel like I've been largely absent on LJ this entire fall. It's shocking even to me that the only thing I've really be able to do is post some reviews of Death in Paradise but there was ZERO ficcing from me ALL semester which was kind of awful. I'm hoping the winter break will give me a chance to catch up a bit. That Sherlock/Good Omens crossover is not dead in the water, dammit! It's got its own soundtrack on my iTunes for god's sake!!

I'm about to go and write an entire paper tonight (a mere 10 pages! I can do this!) but before I sign off with more radio silence until the holidays, some fandom related stuff:

New season of Sherlock will commence on Jan. 1st in the UK! Behold some promo pics of The Detective, The Doctor, The Woman, and the Madman.

Related to Mr. Cumberbatch, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy has been released in the US to some rave reviews. Since it stars so many that I love, I'll definitely be catching it in theaters.

Related to Sherlock Holmes, the sequel to Guy Richie's film is about to release very soon. I'm still sort of hesitant about seeing this as the trailer continues to sort of appall me. Perhaps I'll first catch Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law on The Graham Norton Show first.

So what exactly did your profs do seeing that you were on the verge of nervous breakdowns? Did they actually cut back assignments to your grad classes? Cut back assignments to the undergrads you have to grade?

YAYYYYY!

One professor changed her final assignment for our practicum course so instead of a 20 page paper we're doing a short response thing that's all of a page. She also taught my adult psychopathology course that's technically a year long course so she moved the final paper to be due next semester and a bit longer to encompass the material we'll be learning in the Spring. Another professor will be accepting our intake reports in January so I have more time to work on it.

They were a few but pretty essential changes so now the final weeks look less dire.

YAYYYYY!
I have a feeling the 2nd series will only fuel me ahead. Fingers crossed.

So stoked for Series Two, though I wish it would have come out before Christmas - I feel like a little more canon would help me get my John voice tacked down. I've never had this much trouble finding a narration for a fandom and I'd like my Christmas fic to actually be done before or around Christmas. Still, yay Sherlock! I'm glad we're getting Irene out of the way first, though it may be all right for all our worrying.

I'm digging the Sherlock and John promo pic where Sherlock is clearly giving John the stink eye for posing for a photo when they should be Doing Things.

My sister-in-law's third year nursing class have all nearly had a nervous breakdown, too. I don't know why they put everything right at the end when everyone is already burnt out. At least you've gotten a slight reprieve. *sending good vibes your way*

I may have to wait for Tinker, Tailor on dvd, since I don't know if anyone would go with me to see it. But I am hoping to drag mum to Game of Shadows. My ignorance of Holmesian lore probably aids my enjoyment of Richie's interpretations.

I actually took Sherlock's expression to be a reaction to John's somewhat exasperated look of, "Yes, this is seriously my life now."

Firstly, OMG A SHERLOCK FIC FROM YOU!

Secondly, John's voice is definitely a challenge. But then again I also found Sherlock's voice to be difficult as well. The entire fandom is difficult to tack down with the exception of perhaps Lestrade for me.

But I am hoping to drag mum to Game of Shadows.

I know I'll see this movie in theaters. I should just admit that to myself and settle in. It helps that Jared Harris' Moriarty is now all over the bus stop just outside my apartment.

Hehe! Thanks!

Yeah, Lestrade wasn't too bad for me, I think because I've written people like him before. Lestrade and Murphy have similar narrations in my head because of the whole long suffering cop things (which is why I want to write them together).

The problem I have with John is that I don't know how observant to make him. He comes off as unobservant because Sherlock is hyper-observant, so I think I have more wiggle room then I'm allowing myself. I like my description, so I keep stopping to ask myself if John would notice that thing or this thing or not.

The other problem I'm having is trying to decide how much the Holmes family likes each other, how much they would actually show they liked each other and how much they would show they liked each other by pretending not to care about each other. And then poor John being stuck there sort of going '....'

LOL! Moriarty commands you see this movie, or you will conveniently disappear.

Hey! I've got a bunch of pages to write tonight, too! Ohh, the terror, it builds, heh.

I'm going to the new Sherlock Holmes movie with a bunch of friends, and I actually think I'll enjoy it. Maybe not quite as much as the Men in Black III movie that had a trailer release a wee bit ago, but still!

And then the UK!Sherlock! Ah! I am definitely looking forward to the New Year. :)
